Our two regulated utilities (DTE Electric and DTE Gas) serve more than 3 million customers in Southeastern Michigan. Our non-utility businesses include DTE Energy Trading and DTE Power & Industrial.
DTE Energy is seeking an outstanding finance and strategy professional to join its Corporate Strategy group. The group is comprised of former consultants from top-tier strategy firms, investment bankers, finance professionals, and recent MBA graduates. The group is led by the VP of Corporate Strategy who reports to DTE’s Sr VP of Corporate Strategy and Regulatory Affairs.
Key Accountabilities
The Corporate Strategy group works with all of DTE’s businesses to address the complex challenges facing the energy industry today. As a Director in the group, the candidate will have the opportunity to lead multi-disciplinary teams tackling key strategic initiatives. Examples include:
• Understanding industry trends and their implications for DTE, e.g., by assessing in the impact of new technologies like distributed energy resources on the company’s operations and bottom line
• Analyzing the value and the risks of major capital investments, such as the rebuilding of the electric grid and developing DTE’s long-term technology investment strategy
• Supporting corporate-level M&A activity, most recently running the Separation Management Office during DTE’s recent spin-off of DT Midstream
• Driving efforts to transform our operations, through cost and rate benchmarking and by driving efforts to improve productivity and work management processes in our operating businesses; and
• Facilitating senior management’s strategic planning process, including the preparation of the annual strategic Board offsite discussions
This group has also become an important feeder of top talent for the company.
Minimum Education & Experience Requirements
The successful candidate should be intellectually aggressive and accustomed to expressing well thought out and supported views to drive strategic decision making. The ideal candidate for this position will possess the following credentials:
• Six to ten years’ overall experience, ideally in management consulting, investment banking or other highly rigorous environment.
• MBA or a Master’s Degree/PhD in a relevant field from a top-tier university, ideally combined with an undergraduate degree in an analytical field (e.g., engineering or economics)
