Job Summary

The Sr. Geotechnical Analyst supports Subsurface and Exploration teams by managing and analyzing subsurface data, generating maps and technical analyses, advancing data management initiatives in collaboration with data governance and technical teams, and supporting data loading, transfer, and quality control across platforms.  The role requires deep knowledge of subsurface datasets, including seismic, well, production, cultural, and GIS data, along with proficiency in G&G interpretation software, specifically Petrel, Studio, Kingdom, and ArcGIS Pro.

This role requires supporting international and New Ventures teams, often operating under compressed timelines and evolving project scopes. The analyst must be adaptable in managing subsurface data across diverse global environments, including navigating country-specific requirements for data retention, governance, security, and regulatory compliance, while ensuring timely and accurate data delivery to support business decisions.

Additionally, the analyst is expected to build strong, collaborative relationships across Exploration and Subsurface teams, as well as with Drilling, Production, Business Development, Information Technology, and Investor Relations stakeholders.

The Sr Geo Tech will work in our Houston Corporate office and may work two (2) days a week remotely.

 

Responsibilities

  • Manage a variety of subsurface data (seismic, well data, culture, G&G interpretation), data loading, naming conventions, data formats, data manipulation, and analysis
  • Generate maps and analyses, georeference images, digitize logs for geoscience teams
  • Utilize Petrel, Studio, Paleoscan, Kingdom and ArcGIS for data management, data transfer and analysis
  • Build effective, collaborative relationships across the organization
  • Utilize the Microsoft ecosystem (Office 365, SharePoint, Power Suite, and Azure).
  • Maintain databases under the supervision of others and ensure data quality
  • Search for and identify data for the team and resolve data issues with assistance
  • Working multiple projects simultaneously in a fast-paced environment is essential. 

 

Qualifications/ Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in sciences and or related fields
  • Minimum 10 years’ experience as a geotechnical analyst
  • Advanced experience working in Petrel and ArcGIS Pro
  • Understanding data transfers between various data platforms and subsurface applications
  • Understanding of geodetics: CRS, Datums, Projections and Transformations
  • Experience supporting offshore and international exploration and development projects, with a strong understanding of the unique data handling, regulatory, and operational considerations across different countries and basins
  • Experience in working with technical staff from all levels and fulfilling organization needs in terms of data availability, management, QC
  • Self-motivated and capable of proactively driving continuous improvement

 

 

The individual is required to follow all applicable safety precautions.  Work is performed almost entirely in a controlled (i.e., inside) environment and does not typically subject the incumbent to any hazardous/extreme elements; some positions may require regularly moving or transporting items weighing up to 25 lbs. around the office for various needs.  The successful candidate must be able to complete all essential physical requirements of the job with or without reasonable accommodation.
