Job Description

As a key member of the Aquatics team, an Assistant Swim Team Coach teaches both youth and their parents pool safety and swimming techniques and is responsible for proactive communication and maintaining a safe pool atmosphere while preventing accidents.  The main purpose of this position is to provide a positive role model for members and to create a character-developing atmosphere.  



ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBLITIES:




  • Uphold the Mission of the YMCA

  • Plan practice workouts prior to start of practice. Arrive 15 minutes prior to practices

  • Maintain all required certifications and attend all staff meetings required by Head Swim Coach

  • Able to communicate & available to parents for any questions or concerns that may arise 

  • Encourage team members to clean up equipment after practice to keep pool area clean and tidy

  • Reports to Aquatics Program Director and Head Swim Team Coach





PHYSICAL DEMANDS:




  • Standing for long periods of time

  • Ability to hear, see, speak

  • Noise level- High

  • Exposure to indoor/outdoor elements 

  • Must be able to remain alert

  • Adequate ability to hear noises and distinguish distress signals

  • Ability to continuously scan all areas of the pool with clear vision

  • Ability to communicate verbally, including projecting voice across distance in normal and loud situations

  • Must be able to remain in water for long periods of time

  • Lift at least 25 pounds
