POSTION SUMMARY: The Food Services Assistant is responsible for preparing salads and plating desserts for the cafeteria. Other responsibilities include serving hot and cold food to customers in the cafeteria, handling money and accounting for each charged meal. Complies with regulatory requirements.
ESSENTIAL REQUIREMENTS:
- When operating register, between customers, cleans counters and wipes tables. Sweeps litter from floor and carpet so as to provide a presentable atmosphere for clientele.
- Knows portion sizes for all foods and serves portions consistently to all customers.
- Responsible for knowing all menu item prices and staying informed of changes, and collecting the correct amount for each food sale.
- Counts money, and responsibly maintains records of administrative and doctors charged meals.
- Responsible for the correct operation of the cash register, keeps over rings and mistakes to a minimum.
- Finishes checklist and participates in providing positive feedback before end of shift.
- Keeps work area, refrigerator, steam table and condiment containers clean.
- Responsible for stocking all items needed for next shift.
- Responsible for checking temperature of refrigerator, freezer, and deli bar temperatures in cafeteria and for recording in binder. Takes evasive action and notifies Dietary Coordinator if temperature is out of correct range.
OTHER RESPONSIBILITY:
- Serves breakfast to employees on weekends and some holidays.
- Responsible for completing assigned cleaning tasks in a timely manner.
- Responsible for keeping storage areas orderly and putting items used back in proper place.
- Reports to work on time.
- Adheres to hospital code pertaining to dress, personal appearance, and conduct.
- Promotes positive patient/intrafacility relations and caring environment.
- Attends department/staff meetings as required.
- Follows hospital policies and procedures.
- Maintains confidentiality of patient and employee information.
- Performs other related duties as needed to facilitate work flow and to promote health care.
- Maintains a pleasant attitude at all times while serving customers.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES: None.
EDUCATION, KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES AND EXPERIENCE:
- Must be able to count and follow instructions.
- Previous experience in serving the public and handling money.
LICENSES AND CERTIFICATIONS REQUIRED: None.

PHYSICAL REQUIRMENTS:
- Must be able to sit, stand, bend, lift, and move intermittently during working hours.
- Subject to frequent interruption.
- Some contact with patients and frequent contact with visitors and personnel
MENTAL REQIREMENTS:
- Must be able to work around the sick, elderly, and
general public which are cared for here at Imperial Valley Healthcare District.
SCHELDULING AND AVAILABILITY:
- 8 hour shifts. Rotates weekends and holidays.
- Available for occasional overtime work as needed.
