    SUNNYVALE SCHOOL DISTRICT

    TITLE: 6th Grade Teacher

    DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS

    1. Valid Elementary Teaching Credential.
    2. Advance training is desirable.
    3. Teaching experience at the upper grade level is desirable.

    REPORTS TO: School Site Principal

    JOB GOAL:  To provide each student with a program that will enable him or her to reach his /her fullest academic potential.

    PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITES:

    1. Primarily responsible for meeting curriculum requirements adopted by the Board of Education.
    2. Provides planned learning experiences in order to motivate pupils and best utilize the available time for instruction.
    3. Establishes and maintains standards of pupil behavior needed to achieve a functional learning atmosphere in the classroom.
    4. Evaluates pupils' academic and social growth, keeps appropriate records, prepares progress reports and communicates with parents regarding their child's progress.
    5. Identifies pupil needs and cooperates with other professional staff members in assessing and helping pupils solve health, attitude, and learning problems.
    6. Provides a functional and attractive environment in the classroom.
    7. Maintains professional competence through participation in in-service education activities provided by the district and/or self-selected professional growth activities.
    8. Performs basic attendance accounting and business services as required.
    9. Participates cooperatively in the system of evaluation as stated in the district's guidelines.
    10. Shares in the sponsorship of student activities and participates in faculty committees as agreed upon.
    11. Plans and coordinates the work of aides, teacher assistants, and other paraprofessionals as appropriate.
    12. Administers group standardized tests in accordance with district testing programs.
    13. Develops current lesson plans (daily or weekly) and instructional materials that provide individualized and small group instruction in order to adapt the curriculum  to the needs of each pupil.
    14. Selects, and requisitions, instructional aids, and instructional supplies and assists in developing inventory records within guidelines developed by the district.
    15. Supervises pupils in out-of-classroom activities during the assigned working day.

    TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: Salary and terms of employment are described in the Agreement between the Sunnyvale School District and the Sunnyvale Education Association.

     

    EVALUATION: Performance of this job will be evaluated in accordance with the Agreement between the Sunnyvale School District and the Sunnyvale Education Association.

    Required Credentials:

    Valid Multiple Subject California Teaching Credential and English Learner Authorization.
