Required Qualifications (as evidenced by an attached resume):
Bachelor's Degree (foreign equivalent or higher) in Environmental Data Science, Sustainability Science, Geospatial Information Systems (GIS) or related field. Experience with statistics and geospatial analyses. Experience with data management, interpretation, visualization with large datasets. Programming experience in R and / or Python. Experience with Jupiter Notebooks, GitHub and Box. Experience with Linux systems and HPCs.
Preferred Qualifications:
Advance Degree (foreign equivalent or higher). Knowledge of land use and land use change drivers, including crop and livestock agriculture.
Brief Description of Duties:
The Research Support Specialist works under the supervision of Principal Investigator, Dr. Shelby McClelland in the School of Marine and Atmospheric Sciences and will assist with assessing changing cropland use and management in Bangladesh for industrial animal agriculture. This position requires the ability to work independently as well as part of the team with minimal oversight. Strong problem solving abilities and attention to detail are essential for this position. The successful incumbent will have strong oral and written communication skills.
Responsibilities will include:
Assist in conducting a literature review, including peer-reviewed publications and national agricultural censuses, to assess changing cropland use and management in Bangladesh for industrial animal agriculture for review by PI.
Harmonize different data streams, including geospatial products, pertaining to land use and management of crops, national food supply utilization, livestock densities, and more, following established protocols and for review by PI.
Create novel data products utilizing data analysis, interpretation, and visualization for review by PI.
Assist with drafting and writing of project reports and any peer-reviewed manuscripts for review by PI.
Other duties as assigned.
