  • Full-time, Permanent with Base salary in the range $95,361 - $102,302 + 17% Superannuation (HEW Level 6) 

  • Identified (s25): This position is open to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander candidates only, as a genuine occupational requirement. This is a recognition that Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people are the ones best placed to understand the experiences of their families and communities as students in the higher education sector.

  • Based at our Vibrant St Lucia Campus.

About This Opportunity  

We’re seeking a Senior Officer, Student Success to join the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Studies Unit and play a genuinely meaningful role in supporting Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students at UQ.

This role is about people, relationships and belonging. You’ll be part of a close‑knit team that students can relate to, a team that understands, through shared experience, the realities of navigating education systems as Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.

By walking alongside students throughout their university journey, you’ll help strengthen connection, confidence and success - contributing directly to improved retention, success and graduate outcomes.

Key responsibilities will include: 

  • Serve as the first point of contact for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students, providing holistic support and referrals.

  • Advise prospective and enrolled students on entry pathways, including the UQ Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Admission Scheme.

  • Provide guidance on academic standing matters and connect students with appropriate support services.

  • Support the delivery of the Indigenous Tutorial Assistance and Retention (ITAR) program

  •  Plan, deliver and promote programs and student success/engagement activities as required.



About You

The position is therefore only open to Australian Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander people. 
 

The successful candidate will be required to provide evidence to confirm that they are an Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander person.

In Addition, you bring:

  • A relevant qualification (degree or advanced diploma) or equivalent experience in areas such as student services, social work, counselling, case management or wellbeing support.

  • Strong cultural capability and a proven ability to work respectfully and effectively with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students, communities and stakeholders.

  • Demonstrated understanding of secondary and tertiary education systems, including factors influencing Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander student participation and success.

  • Demonstrated experience building positive and productive relationships with a wide range of internal and external stakeholders.

  • Experience supporting programs, initiatives or events that enhance student engagement, retention or success.

  • Excellent communication skills, with the ability to provide clear advice and support to diverse audiences.

The successful candidate may be required to complete a number of pre-employment checks, including right to work in Australia, criminal check and blue card check.
