Job Description

The Support Instructor assists the Lead Instructor in providing remedial-level instruction in reading, writing, and math skills, including instruction in the subjects needed for passing High School Equivalency (HSE/GED) exams: Language Arts, Mathematics, Science, and Social Studies.


SPECIFIC FUNCTIONS:

  1. Teach to skill deficits as outlined by GED and Practice Test results.
  2. Provide effective classroom management.
  3. Provide differentiated instruction using grouping strategies.
  4. Prepare lesson plans which incorporate critical-thinking, problem-solving, and test-taking skills.
  5. Integrate Workplace Readiness Skills and Digital Literacy instruction in all classes.
  6. Complete Goal Setting, Mid-Term Reviews, Exit Surveys, and Career Pathways activities.
  7. Maintain student records and complete student data collection as required by the Out-of-School Youth Program.
  8. Submit attendance and lesson plans as outlined on the staff calendar.
  9. Attend staff meetings and professional development sessions as required.
  10. Maintain a working email account and check messages regularly.
  11. Maintain an inventory of instructional aids, equipment, books, and other items loaned to the instructor.
  12. Perform other related duties as assigned.


REQUIRED SKILLS, EXPERIENCE, AND BACKGROUND:

  1. Bachelor's degree in a related field required.
  2. New Jersey teaching license preferred.
  3. Minimum one year of teaching/instructional experience, preferably in a young adult learning environment.
  4. Instructors are expected to develop instructional and professional skills through ongoing professional development opportunities provided by the program


The completion of a background check will be required for the selected candidate.

Compensation: Compensation is determined by a variety of criteria, including but not limited to, previous relevant experience, education level, and certifications. The hourly pay range for this position is $20-$24.
