Job Description

Help create a fun, safe, and positive camp experience for kids ages 6–12. As a Lead Counselor, you’ll be a role model, keep groups organized, and support staff so each day runs smoothly—especially during long, active summer days.   

What you’ll do 

  • Lead and supervise a group of campers and support other counselors 

  • Help plan and run daily activities, games, and camp programs 

  • Communicate with parents as needed and handle camper issues respectfully 

  • Keep campers safe, engaged, and included (including reasonable accommodations when possible) 

  • Help keep equipment and spaces clean, safe, and ready to use 

  • Follow YMCA guidelines and required safety/licensing rules 

  • Support camp events, community activities, and occasional fundraising efforts 

Staff Engagement & Development 

Assist in supervision of program participants in accordance with the organization's policies, EEC regulations, applicable laws and QRIS Standards. Monitor and communicate with Camp Directors on all staff-related EEC, QRIS, and South Shore YMCA requirements.
