Description: Head Cook
Job Summary: Overall responsibility for the day-to-day operations of the School Lunch Program. The Head Cook shall work within local, state, and federal statutes and regulations, and Board of Education policies and regulations.
Special Qualifications: Must be Serve Safe certified- or if not certified- must take the class and pass. Must have appropriate communication skills, Ability to work in a team setting, and treat employees equally. Ability to work with and meet the individual needs of kitchen and school staff. Ability to work or learn to work with various Kitchen equipment. Ability to observe and take direction quickly and appropriately; Knowledge of health and safety standards; Physical stamina; Ability to relate to children and young adults; An interest in learning new methods and correct techniques.
PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES: Supervise staff, administrators front-line guidance. .Responsible for ordering and receiving goods and services, inventory, and maintenance of a sanitary work unit. Performs any other delegated responsibility assigned by the Food Service Director. Assists when emergencies arise. Instructs, trains, and supervises general workers in proper food storage, preparation, and the serving of food under sanitary and approved conditions.
Prepares entrees and components of meals. Assists employees in interpreting and following recipes, ensuring they serve the correct portion. Complete Production records to include temperatures of all hot items throughout the cooking procedure and serving periods.
Complete all paperwork. Must be computer savvy. Computer daily sales reconciliation and depositing. Upkeep of the free, reduced, and prepaid lists- These must be kept in Grade order with students' names in alphabetical order. Ensure an acceptable relationship with employees and other school employees and contribute to the positive public image of the Food Service Department.
