Youth Services Specialist


Position Details

The Addison Public Library seeks a customer-focused Children's Librarian to help connect patrons with their interests and information needs. In this role, you will provide exceptional patron experiences at the Youth Services desk, plan and deliver children's programming, lead Storytime, respond to one-on-one meeting requests, and design and implement craft kits. Our Specialists support a learning culture and are expected to share their expertise with coworkers. Additionally, you will have the opportunity to work on special projects and participate in library-wide committees.

Schedule:

Week 1:  Wednesday 4:00 PM - 9:15 PM  & Friday 8:45 AM - 5:00 PM

Week 2: Wednesday 4:00 PM - 9:15 PM, Friday 8:45 AM- 5:00 PM, & Saturday 8:45 AM - 5:15 PM 

Week 3: Sunday 12:45 PM - 5:15 PM, Wednesday 1:30 PM - 9:15 PM, & Friday 8:45 AM - 5:00 PM

Week 4: Wednesday 1:30 PM - 9:15 PM , Friday 8:45 AM - 4:30 PM


What We Are Looking For:

  • A great communicator with a positive attitude, knowledge of child development, developmental milestones, and literacy, with a passion for working with children and connecting them to books.
  • An excellent researcher who stays current with pop culture and publishing trends and knows tools and techniques to provide readers' advisory and references.
  • Proficiency in the use of technology, with the patience and professionalism to guide others.
  • An MLS degree from an ALA-accredited institution is preferred. Enrollment in an ALA-accredited library science graduate program may be considered in place of the degree requirement.
  • Two years of experience working with children is required.
