55% - Marketing
  • Assist in carrying out multi-channel marketing campaigns related to the KU Theatre & Dance performance season, under the supervision of the Department’s Marketing Communication Coordinator
  • Write copy for social media channels, including Facebook and Instagram
  • Visit classrooms and cull industry and internal Department news for posting to social media 
  • Proofread text for outward-facing KU Theatre & Dance marketing deliverables, among other communications
  • Take photos and video of performances, rehearsals, special events, and classes 
  • Research and conduct outreach to students and alums, and to a lesser extent staff and faculty  
40% - Maintain Promotional Presence
  • Provide a student voice for KU Theatre & Dance Instagram channels through posting and generating content. Serves as a primary admin, populating two vibrant Instagram channels, checking them frequently, and reporting any noteworthy activity to the supervisor. 
  • Publish content to Facebook and YouTube
  • Participate as part of a “street team” distributing physical marketing materials
5% - Administrative Duties
  • Greeting guests and representing the Department in the office or at special events
  • Attending to marketing and promotional signage needs 
  • General administrative office work

Required Qualifications

  3. Background in Marketing, Journalism, Photography, Film, English or related field, as indicated in application materials.

  2. Prior marketing experience or experience working or interning for a theatre or dance company, as indicated in application materials.

Position Overview

The ideal candidate will contribute research, content, and hands-on execution of marketing tasks for the Department of Theatre & Dance and its production wings University Theatre and University Dance Company. Candidate will work with the Marketing Communications Coordinator on promoting many on-campus, live, performing arts productions throughout the academic year. Tasks include but are not limited to: taking photos and video, writing copy for Instagram, Facebook, and other marketing deliverables, and outreach to students and alums to generate story ideas and follow up on news tips. Some “street team” work required. Administrative work/general office duties as assigned. Expected hours of 10-15 hours a week. Some weekend and evening hours may be required to attend performances, rehearsals, or special events.

Position Requirements

  1. Ability to work 10-15 hours per week, including occasional evenings.
  2. During the semester term of the appointment, the student hourly must be enrolled in no fewer than 6 credit hours. For summer periods the student hourly must: (1) have been enrolled in no less than 6 hours in the past spring semester or (2) be pre-enrolled in the upcoming fall semester in no less than 6 hours or (3) be enrolled in summer session or (4) be admitted to study in the upcoming fall semester. Student Hourlies may be undergraduate or graduate students. (Exceptions granted for GRA/GTA/GA appointments DO NOT apply to Student Hourly appointments).

Employment Conditions

(1) Student employees are not eligible for remote work arrangements unless an exception is approved by the unit leadership and HR.

(2) This is an hourly/non-exempt position. A student employee cannot hold an hourly/non-exempt position and a salaried/exempt graduate or undergraduate position (GRA/GTA/GA/RUA/RGA) concurrently.
