Job Description

About the Role

At xdof, we're at an inflection point. Frontier labs are racing to build general-purpose robots, and high-quality training data is the bottleneck. We're building the foundation behind the foundation models – the data collection systems, operational capability, exabyte-scale data warehouse, and software toolchain – to help our partners drive the field forward.

As a Forward Deployed Engineer at xdof, you'll be the technical bridge between our data and the leading researchers building the future of robotics. You'll work directly with customers at top frontier labs: understanding their needs, integrating our data into their model training, and turning their feedback into improvements across our both data collection operations and research platform.

This isn't a support role. You'll join the engineering team in writing production code: building integrations into the broader robotics ecosystem and the data pipelines that plug xdof's datasets into customers' training infrastructure. You'll join the sales teams as they dig into customer needs and discover insights as to how to better serve researchers. You'll join the product team as they turn those unscoped insights into concrete platform development.

About You

We're looking for a high-agency engineer excited about the future of robotics and the chance to contribute to the field.

Baseline skills:

  • a bachelor's degree or equivalent experience in Computer Science or related field

    • junior candidates will be considered

  • strong full-stack capabilities

  • excellent communication skills: you can translate complex requirements from customers into clear asks for op teams, and turn ambiguous customer needs into concrete engineering tasks

  • fluency with Python, and familiarity with TypeScript/React

You might be a good fit if you:

  • have a proven track record collaborating with across a wide range of technical

  • are customer-obsessed: you dig into what users actually need, not just what they ask for

  • have a bias for action: you'd rather ship something small and iterate than wait for the perfect solution

  • are comfortable with ambiguity and uncertainty

  • are mission-driven and passionate about robotics: work at xdof is fast-paced and constant. We hope you love what you're going to be doing, because you'll be doing a lot of it.
