We are seeking a passionate and dedicated Art Teacher to join our educational team at Alcona Middle/High School. The ideal candidate will inspire creativity and foster artistic expression among students in a supportive and engaging environment. This full-time position offers the opportunity to teach a diverse range of art techniques and concepts while encouraging students to explore their individual artistic voices.
Responsibilities
- Develop and implement a comprehensive art curriculum that aligns with state standards and fosters creativity and critical thinking.
- Teach various art forms, including drawing, painting, sculpture, and digital media, to students in middle and high school grades.
- Create a positive and inclusive classroom environment that encourages student participation and collaboration.
- Assess and evaluate student progress, providing constructive feedback to support artistic development.
- Organize and oversee student art exhibits, contests, and other events to showcase student work.
- Collaborate with other faculty members to integrate art into interdisciplinary projects and initiatives.
- Maintain an inventory of art supplies and manage classroom resources effectively.
- Stay current with art education trends and best practices, incorporating new techniques and technologies into the curriculum.
- Communicate regularly with parents and guardians regarding student progress and achievements.
- Participate in professional development opportunities to enhance teaching skills and knowledge.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Art Education or a related field; Master’s degree preferred.
- Valid teaching certification in Art Education for middle and high school levels.
- Strong portfolio demonstrating proficiency in various art techniques and mediums.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage and motivate students.
- Experience in teaching art to middle and high school students is preferred.
- Knowledge of current trends in art education and ability to incorporate technology into the classroom.
- Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines.
- Commitment to fostering a diverse and inclusive learning environment.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
The Teacher will plan, organize, and implement an appropriate instructional program in a secondary learning
environment that guides and encourages students to develop and fulfill their academic potential. Work is
performed under the supervision of the principal:
● Plan, prepare, and deliver lesson plans and instructional materials to facilitate active learning.
● Instruct and monitor students in the use of learning materials and equipment.
● Use relevant technology to support and differentiate instruction.
● Manage student behavior in the classroom by establishing and enforcing rules and procedures.
● Maintain discipline in accordance with the policies and disciplinary systems of Alcona Community Schools.
● Provide appropriate feedback on work.
● Encourage and monitor the progress of individual students and use information to adjust teaching strategies
● Maintain accurate and complete records of students’ progress and development.
● Update all necessary records accurately and completely as required by laws, district policies, and school
regulations.
● Prepare required reports on students and activities
● Communicate necessary information regularly to students, colleagues, and parents regarding student progress
and student needs.
● Establish and communicate clear learning objectives for all learning activities.
● Prepare the classroom for classroom activities
● Make available district provided learning materials and resources for use in educational activities
● Observe and evaluate student’s work performance and development
● Assign and grade class work, homework, tests, and assignments.
● Manage student behavior during transition times and before and after school as assigned.
● Actively participate in a variety of district meetings including those that are mandatory.
● Demonstrate preparation and skill in working with students from diverse cultural, economic, and ability
backgrounds
● Encourage parent and community involvement, obtain information for parents when requested, promptly return
phone calls, and answer emails
● Participate in appropriate professional activities
● Provide supervision of students, as designated and assigned.
● Act in a professional supervisory capacity when interacting with or observing students and student behavior.

● Valid MI Teaching Certificate Per MDE Requirements for Placement
● Must meet No Child Left Behind (NCLB) Standards for position.
