Job Description


As a member of the Behavioral Health Unit patient care team, the MENTAL HEALTH WORKER assists licensed clinical staff in providing patient care in a mental healthcare setting.  This position will work with a mentally ill adult patient population.   Under the direction of a Registered Nurse, the MENTAL HEALTH WORKER provides care in a manner that demonstrates an understanding of the functional and/or developmental age of the individual served.   This position communicates with the department leadership, Charge Nurse and co-workers as appropriate regarding patient clinical conditions including behavioral and physical symptomatology. 



REPRESENTATIVE DUTIES:




  • Assists with patient admission tasks

  • Assist with activities of daily living (ADL’s)

  • Assists in maintaining a safe and clean environment

  • Assists with baths, toileting, nutritional support/assistance

  • Performs unit patient rounding, observing/reporting patient behaviors

  • Monitors patient vital signs/pain

  • Ambulates/transfers/transports patients

  • Ensures safety/security of the unit

  • Monitors for contraband

  • Ensure the rights of the patient/family are respected and maintained



The successful candidate will possess the following:




  • Completion of Mental Health Worker certification program

  • Six months previous Mental Health Worker in an acute Behavioral Health environment

  • Current BLS

  • Management of Assaultive Behavior (within 90 days of employment)

  • Los Angeles City Fire Card (within 90 days of employment)

  • Physical strengths to assist patients
