JOB TITLE: Security Specialist HOUR STATUS: Nonexempt

PRIMARY PURPOSE:
Provide centralized operational support to the School Marshal program by coordinating communications, monitoring security systems, maintaining schedules, and assisting with documentation and reporting. The Security Specialist serves as a situational awareness and coordination point for campus safety operations, ensuring timely communication of information to School Marshals and campus administrators. This position does not have access to CJIS or TLETS and does not perform law enforcement functions.
QUALIFICATIONS:
· High school diploma or GED required
· Associate’s degree or higher preferred
· Experience in dispatching, security, or emergency communications preferred
· Experience in a school or public safety environment preferred
MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES:
Communications & Coordination:
· Serve as a central communication point for School Marshals
· Relay information to appropriate personnel
· Monitor radio traffic and ensure proper protocols
· Notify personnel of incidents or emergencies
Security Monitoring:
· Monitor camera systems
· Report suspicious activity
· Provide real-time information during incidents
Scheduling & Event Coordination:
· Maintain School Marshal schedules including events
· Ensure proper staffing for events
· Track schedule changes and notifications
· Maintain attendance records
Records & Documentation:
· Maintain logs and reports
· Assist with documentation
· Ensure accurate recordkeeping
Compliance:
· Follow all district and legal requirements
· Maintain confidentiality
Other Duties:
· Assist with drills and preparedness activities
· Perform other duties as assigned
WORKING CONDITIONS:
Mental Demands:
Ability to communicate effectively (verbal and written); interpret and follow policies, procedures; coordinate with other district employees; and maintain emotional control under stress.
Physical Demands/Environmental Factors:
Ability to sit for extended periods, monitor multiple screens, and respond to incidents in real time. Moderate stress due to operational responsibilities. Occasional after-hours and weekend work may be required.
