Job Description

Position Summary:

Norfolk Crush is a facility that processes 110k bushels of soybeans daily into soybean oil, soybean meal, and soy hull pellets. The Extraction Operator’s responsibilities include, but are not limited to, monitoring assigned equipment, taking, and analyzing samples, making process adjustments to maintain daily operating parameters, and maintaining housekeeping and security.

Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Perform all duties in accordance with OSHA, company safety, and environmental regulations, including wearing appropriate PPE as necessary.
  • Conduct continuous inspections of key process points, make necessary machinery and equipment adjustments, identify problems on equipment, and continually monitor equipment.
  • Monitor and adjust operation using computerized and controlled systems to meet department requirements.
  • Participate in projects intended to improve efficiency and reduce operating costs.
  • Maintain accurate logs of key production variables such as production volume, yield, plant uptime, and utility consumption on a timely basis.
  • Perform the necessary safety inspections to maintain the equipment in safe and efficient operation condition.
  • Coordinate work functions with fellow prep and extraction employees and other departments.
  • Monitor processing equipment and report mechanical issues.
  • Understand all operating and emergency procedures.
  • All other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

  • 1+ years’ experience in Ag industry working with grain and grain equipment.
  • Knowledge of mechanical processes and aptitude for spatial awareness and quantitative reasoning.
  • Ability to work at varying heights.
  • Proven leadership skills with the ability to train, coach, motivate and manage the performance of team members.
  • Ability to be available for help as needed when off shift. Will work during annual shutdown week.
  • Must have effective oral and written communication across different levels and departments.
  • Desire and ability to contribute to a team environment across departments and shifts.
  • Strong mechanical aptitude and willingness to help the maintenance department when needed.
  • Must have good computer skills.

Working Conditions & Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to frequently bend, squat, climb, sit, stand, walk, handle objects, reach above shoulder level, use fine finger movements and push/pull.
  • Ability to occasionally kneel.
  • Ability to frequently carry/lift light to heavy loads of up to 50 lbs.
  • Ability to work either straight day shift or straight night shift, as business needs arise. This position requires 12-hour shifts (7:00 AM – 7:00 PM or 7:00 PM – 7:00 AM).
