    Position:   Teacher of Instrumental Music / Coordinator of Instrumental Music 

    Reports to:                      

    • Activities Director
    • Building Administration
    • Superintendent of Schools
    • Director of Curriculum and Instruction
    • Director of Business and Operations


    Qualifications:    

    • Have a minimum of a Bachelor's Degree (may have additional advanced degrees) and a Kansas Teacher License.
    • Accept the responsibility of assigned tasks.
    • Communicate effectively with students, staff, and parents.
    • Perform simple classroom tasks proficiently.
    • Maintain discipline in the school setting.
    • Be punctual in all assignments.
    • Have expertise in music theory, instruction, and performance.



    Job Functions:   

    • Prepare the classroom for sessions.
    • Distribute and collect lesson materials.
    • Instruct students according to prepared lesson plans.
    • Maintain a neat and orderly classroom.
    • Perform duties to meet the safety and personal care of students.
    • Observe all district policies.
    • In cooperation with the Director of Business and Operations and the building principals, coordinate developing budgets for all district instrumental music programs.
    • Attend school performances, as appropriate.
    • Supervise and assist with performance settings and subsequent removal of items, as appropriate.
    • Perform relevant duties as assigned by the building principal.
    • Exhibit total confidentiality in matters relating to students.
    • Under the supervision of the principal, plan, organize, and supervise the district's music programs.
    • Organize and participate in informational meetings.
    • Oversee marching band, concert band, jazz band, and solo/ensemble preparation.
    • Organize events such as Concerts, Parades, Football Games, Basketball Games, honor bands, clinics, solo/ensemble festival.
    • Travel planning for events outside of school - schedule transportation, book lodging, plan meals.
    • Manage systems for KSHSAA and KMEA events, and maintain Festival Scores account.
    • Plan and prepare repertoire for concerts and community performances.
    • Manage instrument inventory, music library, and band uniforms.
    • Maintain and care for equipment, schedule repairs.
    • Organize curriculum needs for 6th grade band, middle school band, and high school bands.
    • Work with instrument music colleagues to organize curriculum, events,  tasks, and timelines.
    • Maintain outside staff for drumline and colorguard.
    • Delegate jobs to student leaders.
    • Create and maintain band/instrumental music calendar.
    • Be proactive when filling out entry forms and event registrations.
    • Manage fundraising activities, and financial accounting for raised funds.
    • Plan and organize large trips on a 3 year rotation.
    • Program creation for concerts, including communication and advertising.
    • Communicate consistently with Activities Office for upcoming event needs.
    • Demonstrate spirit and camaraderie at school events, pep rallies, and performances.
    • Be the visible face of the program in the school and community.
    • Manage the budget and activity accounts.
    • Fill our purchase orders for all necessary expenditures.
    • Keep accurate records and maintain historical 



    Physical Requirements/ Environmental Conditions:  

    • Sitting and standing.
    • Repetitive wrist motion.
    • Physical exertion including bending, twisting, and turning.
    • Occasional lifting and moving objects of up to thirty pounds.
    • Maintain personal electronic device to access school computer/network authentication system. 


     Travel Requirements:  

    • Local travel between district facilities. Valid Driver's License and reliable transportation is required.
