Description
SCHEDULE: PRN; Two 8-hour days per month
The clinical team member utilizes the approved process to provide and direct quality patient care in the Outpatient Clinic setting. He/she directs and provides patient/family teaching. The clinical staff member provides leadership when working with health team members in maintaining standards for professional practice in the clinical setting. This staff member acts under the direct supervision of the Director of Respiratory Therapy and with the outpatient clinic staff to perform their job duties and tests ordered by a medical practitioner. Utilizes the approved process when planning and providing patient care within their scope of practice or licensure.
Requirements
Graduate from an approved professional medical program. Certification in Basic Life Support is required within 3 months of date of hire. Possesses current Iowa nurse license (ie LPN or RN) or Registered Respiratory Therapy. No experience required other than during the formal education process. Possesses technical skills and knowledge of equipment mechanisms necessary to deliver quality nursing care. Demonstrates knowledge of and commitment to policies and procedures of nursing service and the hospital and clinic.
Summary
Applies knowledge of illnesses, injuries and diseases, using available resources in the assessment process. Documents nursing assessments and intervention, etc. Communicates information to peers, supervisors, physicians. Organizes patient care, family/patient teaching and other assigned duties. Organizes schedules and appointments and communicates with specialty medical practitioners and other staff. Administers medications, treatments and assists with procedures according to policy and procedure. Functions effectively in emergencies. Utilizes decision-making processes to evaluate care management of patient/family/significant other and intervene or discuss care with physician/care giver as appropriate. Competent within scope of practice for care of all ages of patients (infant, pediatric, adult, geriatric). Identifies and initiates appropriate patient/family education following assessment of learning needs including disease process, medication therapy, test and procedures.
