Job Description

We are seeking highly qualified researchers with established expertise in public health data analysis, survey research, and applied epidemiologic methods, who can contribute to research projects that center health equity, identify disparities, and inform systems-level change.

Description

The American Institute of Dental Public Health (AIDPH) invites applications for statistical and research development consultants to support our portfolio of community-engaged, public health research initiatives. We are seeking highly qualified researchers with established expertise in public health data analysis, survey research, and applied epidemiologic methods, who can contribute to research projects that center health equity, identify disparities, and inform systems-level change. This is a 1099 contractor role. Consultants will be engaged on an as-needed basis and compensated hourly for discrete scopes of work aligned with their expertise.

Please note: This position is best suited for consultants with established public health research expertise and the ability to independently analyze public health data for insights into health disparities. We understand this request is specialized and therefore may only apply to a narrow pool of candidates.

Position Overview

AIDPH is establishing contracts with on-call Public Health Research & Data Consultants with demonstrated experience in:

  • Designing, analyzing, and interpreting surveys in public health contexts
  • Working with large-scale public health surveillance datasets (e.g., BRFSS, NHANES, YRBS, MEPS, etc.)
  • Applying equity-informed frameworks to examine health disparities and outcomes
  • Conducting iterative, applied research that adapts based on data findings
  • Producing policy-relevant, publication-ready research outputs and data visualizations

Consultants must be able to work independently, provide technical recommendations grounded in public health principles, and translate data into actionable findings. The ideal candidate is comfortable working in a flexible, evolving environment where projects build in response to emerging findings.

Required Qualifications

  • Master’s or doctoral degree in epidemiology, biostatistics, public health, or a closely related field
  • 5+ years of experience in applied public health research
  • Strong command of statistical software (R or SAS) and online survey platforms (SurveyMonkey or Qualtrics)
  • Proficiency in data visualization tools (e.g., Tableau)
  • Demonstrated experience analyzing data to assess disparities and health outcomes
  • At least three publications or publicly accessible reports where the candidate is credited for quantitative analysis or data development using public health datasets

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience working with nonprofit or community-based public health organizations
  • Expertise in culturally responsive or justice-oriented research methods
  • Familiarity with oral health, chronic disease, behavioral health, or healthcare access research
  • Experience developing qualitative data analysis and development is a bonus
  • Experience working with and producing publications in relation to AIDPH's core communities of focus

How We Work

AIDPH maintains a pool of consultants who work with us consistently but on an as-needed basis in order to implement research activities. We are funded through a mix of research grants and contracts, each requiring project-specific expertise. Consultants often advise during the primary data collection phase, analyze data independently, and bring insights to the project lead, then summarize data for review and inclusion in publications. Depending on the scope of the project, consultants may also contribute to publication development as appropriate.
