Seward & Kissel LLP is seeking an experienced Senior Conflicts Analyst to join its Conflicts team. This is a fully remote position, open to candidates based on the West Coast. The Senior Conflicts Analyst plays a critical role in the Firm’s conflicts and new business intake function. Working with a high degree of independence and discretion, the Senior Conflicts Analyst is responsible for managing complex conflicts checks, conducting sophisticated corporate research, and maintaining the accuracy and integrity of the Firm’s conflicts database. The position requires sound judgment, strong analytical skills, and the ability to collaborate closely with the Conflicts Counsel, General Counsel, Firm attorneys, and administrative departments to ensure timely and compliant conflicts clearance.
Responsibilities
- Independently review, analyze, and process complex conflicts checks and new business intake submissions for new clients, new matters, informational conflicts checks, lateral candidates, and other conflicts-related requests.
- Generate and analyze conflicts search reports, identify potential conflicts issues, and escalate issues requiring attorney review with clear and concise summaries.
- Conduct in-depth corporate and entity research, including analysis of ownership structures, affiliates, and corporate family trees.
- Coordinate closely with the Conflicts Counsel, the General Counsel’s Office and firm attorneys to resolve flagged conflicts and manage complex clearance issues.
- Summarize conflicts findings and potential risks for attorney review, providing practical recommendations where appropriate.
- Draft screening memoranda and conflict waivers and assist with the implementation and maintenance of ethical walls, as requested.
- Document and maintain accurate records of conflicts reviews, approvals, waivers, special notices, and related correspondence.
- Maintain and regularly update the information in the Firm’s conflicts management system.
- Work collaboratively with Records, Accounting, and Billing departments to ensure consistency and accuracy across Firm systems.
- Provide guidance and support to other Conflicts team members as needed and serve as a resource on conflicts-related processes and best practices.
- Perform additional conflicts-related responsibilities as assigned by the Conflicts Counsel or the Office of the General Counsel.
Qualifications and Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree or an equivalent combination of education and experience; law school graduates are encouraged to apply.
- 5+ years of progressive experience in conflicts analysis or new business intake, preferably at a mid-size or large law firm.
- Strong understanding of conflicts of interest principles and professional responsibility rules; familiarity with the ABA Model Rules is a plus.
- Experience working with electronic conflicts management systems such as Intapp Open, Elite, Upfront or similar platforms.
- Proven ability to conduct and analyze complex corporate research, including parent-subsidiary and affiliate relationships, using public filings and reputable research resources.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Outlook and Microsoft Office applications.
- Exceptional organizational, analytical, research, and proofreading skills, with keen attention to detail.
- Ability to manage a high volume of work, prioritize competing deadlines, and meet tight turnaround times in a fast-paced environment.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to interact professionally and confidently with attorneys, staff, and Firm leadership.
- Demonstrated discretion, integrity, and sound judgment when handling highly confidential and sensitive information.
- Maintain a premium customer service experience through proactive communication and follow through.
- Ability to work independently while contributing effectively in a collaborative, team-oriented environment.
- Willingness to work outside of standard business hours when operational needs require.
