Job Description

Science Tutor - 4 hours per day - VHHS 


 


Overview: An academic resource tutor will work one on one or in small groups with students who seek academic support.


 


Reports to: Associate Principal for Teaching and Learning


Science Department Chair


 


Employee status: Educational Support Personnel - Direct Paraprofessional


ESP Bargaining Union


 


Calendar: 178 Student Attendance Days, 10:00am - 2:00pm


 


Qualifications: Paraprofessional License


Experiences in educational/school setting is beneficial


Evidence of subject­ matter competency preferred (i.e. degree major in content area, ISBE professional educator license with appropriate content ­area endorsement, work in related field, etc.)


 


Professional/Personal Characteristics:



  • Previous experience in an educational setting preferred

  • Excellent organizational skills and time management skills

  • Ability to perform multiple tasks concurrently under varying deadlines

  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills

  • Ability to identify sensitive information and maintain confidentiality

  • Proficient with Google G-Suite, office and phone equipment

  • Ability to work as part of an educational team to support the needs of individual or groups of students


 


Job Responsibilities:



  • Provide drop-in tutoring support for students. 

  • Individual and/or group tutoring will focus on reviewing concepts, homework, and additional practice.

  • Collaborate with the MTSS team in the development and implementation of tutoring.

  • Assist students in accessing online resources.

  • New duties may be designed as the position evolves and/or further needs are identified.
