Requirements

  • HS diploma or equivalent.
  • Valid driver's license with a clean record - no excessive tickets and/or loss of license in the past 5 years.
  • Experience working with various types of equipment including pumps, generators, wrenches, shovels, drain spades, drills, backhoes, dump trucks, sewer jet machines, various hand and power tools, etc.  
  • Ability to apply basic accounting knowledge and principles, such as fractions, percentages, ratios, etc.
  • Strong customer service skills with the ability to effectively present information and respond to questions using tact and diplomacy from city staff, general public, supervisors, vendors, co-workers, etc.
  • Ability to be on-call for a 7-day period, including weekend rounds based on a 4-person rotating schedule.  Must have the flexibility to respond to after-hour emergency callouts. 
  • Must be able to pass a pre-employment physical and drug screen.

 

Summary

What does a water/wastewater operator do?

  • Monitor meters and gauges, accurately reporting the findings.
  • Collect and test water and sewage samples.
  • Inspect, clean, maintain and repair various equipment, tans, filter beds, and other work areas.

Hamilton's water treatment is a Class B surface water, and the wastewater consists of lagoons.  Excellent opportunity to grow from a non-certified employee to a certified operator while gaining valuable skills and knowledge.
