What you'll Do:
The Early Head Start Classroom Aide position assists in the delivery of Infant-Toddler program services by performing a variety of assigned duties. Based on the activities assigned, employees may work with children in the classroom, prepare and serve food, assist with ensuring all safety procedures are followed, and may be responsible for the general cleaning of classrooms and rest rooms.
Classroom Aide Specific Duties:
- Assist teachers and Caregiver in implementing developmental experiences for children, including activities in language, intellectual, social-emotional and physical development; as well as skill development in health and safety;
- Assist the teachers and Caregiver in managing the classroom to assure a safe, healthy and positive atmosphere for children;
- Observe and identify needs of classroom children without constant direction and supervision;
- Assist in toileting children and perform diapering procedures;
- Perform necessary personal care procedures as directed and trained;
- Physically interact with children outdoors and indoors to include floor-time in a safe and appropriate manner;
- Complete and submit program paperwork accurately and promptly, as assigned;
- SUPERVISE CHILDREN AT ALL TIMES ensuring no child is left unattended.
- Prepare food to be served in family style format;
- Help classroom staff at lunch tables as an active participant with children;
- Follow sanitary practices in handling food according to licensing standards;
- Pick up and deliver food as needed;
- Conduct inventory if necessary;
- May have to carry food carriers, which may be empty or full of food, into and out of classroom.
- General cleaning, sanitizing, vacuuming and light maintenance;
- May include cleaning bathroom and the classroom.

Requirements
- High school diploma or GED and 1 year experience in caring for young children preferred.
Employees in this position must possess close and distance vision and: Occasionally are required to:
- Walk, Climb or balance, Taste or smell, Drive or have the ability to drive, Work irregular or extended hours, Twist at the neck or trunk, Read typed or written word, Lift up to 50 pounds.
- Regularly are required to: Stand, Sit, Use hands to finger, handle or feel Stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl, Reach with hands or arms, Use repeated hand, arm or finger motion, Frequently are required to:Talk or Hear Lift up to 10 pounds.
