The Director of Group Living is a member of the Site Management Team, oversees residential services and living
units and serves as the Program Director in his/her absence. Primarily responsible for managing all available
resources in a manner that provides the students with the highest level of care and to ensure the Rite of Passage
program is being implemented in accordance with ROP policies and procedures and Federal, State and Local
licensing requirements. The Director of Group Living reports to the Program Director and supervises the Unit
Managers and direct-care staff.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
OPERATIONS:
1. Implements, manages and monitors Group Living Operations. Responsible for;
a. Daily Schedule.
b. Logistics (Plan of the Week).
c. Shift Staffing.
d. Operations Manual Compliance.
e. Extra-curricular and community service activities.
f. Program norms (Positive Skill Development Group Meetings, Team Meetings, Dress and
Appearance, MPEs, etc.).
g. Positive Operational Culture.
h. Thinking For A Change.
i. Rams Club meetings, agenda and activities.
j. Safety, Health and Welfare of staff and students.
k. Facility/Grounds appearance and maintenance.
2. Investigates and responds appropriately to alleged and/or actual incidents of;
a. Physical Restraints.
b. Abuse Allegations.
c. Sexual Misconduct.
d. Student Right’s Violations.
e. Mishaps.
3. Represents Group Living Department;
a. Site Management Meetings.
b. EXCOM Meetings and Activities.
c. Chairperson of site Group Living Meetings.
d. Shift Change Meetings and Turnover.
FINANCE:
1. Responsible for the proper management and allocations of site budget as it relates to;
a. Group Living Department staffing, logistics, supplies, etc.
b. Management of stipends relating to sporting activities, training, clothing, etc.
HUMAN RELATIONS:
1. Provides management and leadership knowledge, skills and abilities to the Group Living Department.
Primarily responsible for;
a. Hiring, firing, discipline and corrective action.
b. Training and continuous development of staff (Pre-Service, Ops, OJT, and In-Service).
c. Employee Evaluations.
d. Reviewing and approving time and attendance for supervised staff.
e. Investigations relating to allegations of violations relating to Equal Employment Opportunity,
Harassment, Safety, Discrimination, Violation of Policies and Procedures, Conduct, Ethics and
ROP Norms and Culture (As a Minimum). 2. Ensures proper staffing levels are maintained within established Position Control Roster standards for the Group Living Department. Manages the following; a. Selection and staffing. b. Retention initiatives and goals. 3. Promotes positive communications and interactions between Group Living and other Departments. CUSTOMER AND COMMUNITY RELATIONS: 1. Establishes and promotes positive relationships with the following: a. Placing Agencies. b. Admissions. c. Licensing. d. Community. e. Other ROP Sites. 2. Actively supports and contributes to; a. Site Newsletter. b. RAM’s Newsletter. c. On and Off-site community related activities. REGULATORY COMPLIANCE: 1. Assists Program Director in the following activities; a. Program Statement. b. Outside Correspondence and Inquires. c. External and Internal Auditing Functions. OTHER DUTIES AS DEFINED: 1. Serves as a member of the Executive Committees. Participates and responsible for; a. Goal and Initiative creation, implementations, management and achievement as it relates to Group Living, Site, and Rite of Passage. 2. Provides encouragement, guidance and resources to staff and students when needed. 3. Models and ensures all program norms are upheld without compromise. 4. Acts as a positive role model and mentor for both staff and students. 5. Treats others with respect, confronts negative behavior and supports confrontation.
MARGINAL FUNCTIONS:
1. As directed, performs any other duties as assigned.
2. Assists with Pre Service Training when necessary.
3. Encouraged to participate in at least 50% of the daily physical activities required of the students.
4. Participates in Site, Region and/or Company community events as required.
5. Assists with time and attendance in the Stromberg system, if needed.
6. Assists with student transportation.
7. Participates as a member of the EXCOM committee.
8. Participates as a member of the Immediate Action Team.
9. Participates in the rotation of the Administrator on Duty assignment when required.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
1. Possess a BA/BS in a related field (Master’s Degree preferred). Substitute degree requirement with
experience as long as actively pursuing a related degree.
2. Four years of related experience in residential facility management.
3. For sites operating in Maryland, all direct-care staff must comply with COMAR 14.31.06.06.
4. Demonstrated ability to manage multiple people and projects.
5. Good interpersonal skills including the ability to interview potential employees.
6. A working knowledge of the Positive Operational Culture program.
7. Must meet the requirements to be an eligible ROP driver. Must possess a current State Driver’s License
and have an acceptable driving record for the past three (3) years. 8. Strong knowledge of overall company operations and policies and procedures. 9. Ability to pass a criminal background clearance check, drug screen, physical and TB test. 10. Ability to perform work with little or no supervision. 11. Ability to utilize resources available to complete assigned projects. 12. Ability to prepare written reports and correspondence. 13. Ability to understand and follow verbal and written instructions. 14. Ability to effectively communicate, verbally and in writing. 15. Able to work in excess of 40 hours per week with the possibility of a varied schedule. 16. Must be able to maintain a high level of confidentiality. 17. Must have excellent organization and time management skills. 18. Ability to build and maintain positive internal and external relationships. 19. Ability to provide exemplary customer service to all employees and outside constituents. 20. Must be flexible and able to handle multiple priorities, with the ability to adjust to high pressure and rapidly changing business conditions. 21. Proficient in the use of computers and associated software.
