Job Description

Supervise and administer all district programs for children with disabilities under the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA).



  • Be knowledgeable about the development and trends in special education, Instructional management and supervision

  • Supervise the location, identification, and evaluation process for students with disabilities

  • Provide information related to due process procedures and IDEA requirements to administrators, faculty and patrons

  • Consult with teaching staff/Administration staff to determine needs of specific students and the program

  • Consult with teachers to determine instructional materials and supplies needed for the program

  • Collaborate with school and district level curriculum committees and other teams to develop plans and program recommendations for the inclusion of students with disabilities


Provide consultation to special and general education personnel in the district   



  • Visit special and regular education classrooms to observe effectiveness of instructional program



  1. Determine whether instruction corresponds to goals and objectives of student’s individualized education program and state curriculum standards

  2. Determine if materials, equipment and other supports are available and are adequately and properly used

  3. Confer with teachers to provide technical assistance for improvement of instructional skills and behavior management



  • Consult with staff to assure that specific needs of the student are met

  • Consult with teachers/Administration about appropriate and adequate materials


     Designate appropriate professionals responsible for appraisal, programming, and   


     Implementation activities as specified by state guidelines.  



  • Assure appropriate personnel are available for due process and instructional activities, included related service personnel

  • Deploy staff in the most efficient and effective manner


     


 


 


Initiate and administer programs to locate, identify, and evaluate students with suspected              disabilities



  • Design and implement Child Find activities in accordance with state and federal guidelines

  • Arrange timely evaluation of students suspected of having a disability


     


Provide consultative assistance to general education teachers servicing students with disabilities



  • Provide information and assistance with needed modifications, accommodations, or adaptations as specified on the student’s individual education plan


     


Develop and recommend the district special education plan and budget to the district superintendent


 


Develop and administer the district’s comprehensive system of personnel development for special education



  • Arrange and implement staff development for special educators, general educators, and administrators as needed, at least annually


 


Serve as liaison with the ADE Special Education Unit in matters concerning education of students with disabilities



  • Provide required information to the Unit

  • Disseminate information provided by the Unit


 


      Serve as a liaison with parent and professional organizations


 


      Special Education Conference Scheduling:



  • Making sure all conference attendees are notified: special education teacher, general education teacher, building level administration, parents

  • Rescheduling when necessary


     


      Maintaining timelines/IDEA Compliance


 


      Scheduling for Examiners


 


      Gathering required documentation for evaluations and reevaluations:



  • Classroom bases assessments, observations, hearing and vision forms, all other forms as required


 


      Conducting folder reviews


 


      Providing records and support for special education teachers and parents


 


General duties to oversee:  eSchool data, special education budget, management of special education platform for paperwork – Attain/SEAS


 


      Attend District/building leadership meetings and walk throughs as requested and needed


 


      Serve as the Special Programs Coordinator and oversee the programs and operations of them


 


      Serve as the 504 manager of programs across all campuses


 


      Display professionalism in appearance, attitude, and actions
