Job Description
Surgo Health is a Public Benefit Corporation building the world’s most comprehensive and insightful AI-powered data platform that reveals the why behind people’s behaviors. We uncover the unseen drivers of health - people’s beliefs, barriers, and behaviors - and transform that intelligence into scalable products that enable healthcare organizations to drive impact, reduce costs, and advance inclusion. From improving clinical trial design to optimizing care delivery and public health strategies, our solutions help decision-makers act on what truly shapes health outcomes. By revealing the human side of healthcare, we’re making it more personal, precise, and effective - for everyone.

We are hiring an experienced Research Scientist. This is the right role for you if you are passionate about youth mental wellbeing, large scale surveys, and innovative analytics . Surgo has started NextGen Pulse, the largest multi-year youth mental health collection in the UK, using Derin (our conversational AI-enabled survey platform). As our Research Scientist, you will be critical in designing, delivering, and analyzing 8 youth mental health collections at scale. You will join a dynamic and fast-paced environment and work with cross-functional teams to design, build and roll-out products that deliver the company’s vision and strategy.

What you’ll achieve:

  • Design, configure and deploy cutting edge mental health collections to capture youth mental wellbeing patterns that are innovative and push the space forward
  • Analyze large-scale text data from thousands of youth to synthesize lived experiences into actionable and understandable insights
  • Propose interventions to a diverse set of mental health stakeholders based on our findings to amplify the work of charities, policy makers, advocacy organizations, and healthcare providers to genuinely improve mental health outcomes
  • Inform our products and interactive outputs by communicating what we’re seeing works best, and effectively relaying that information to our Product and R&D teams so they can generalize our approaches.
  • Deliver on a wide range of research activities such as data analytics, literature review, instrument development, development of novel data sources, compiling reports and slide decks
  • Innovate, experiment, and deliver with ownership by thinking flexibly and creatively around what’s most needed in the UK mental health and wellbeing space today

About you:

  • You have a PhD in a relevant field - such as psychology, health sciences, public health, neuroscience
  • You have a deep interest in how non-clinical factors like beliefs, attitudes, and barriers impact mental health and wellbeing behaviors and outcomes, especially in upstream prevention
  • You have collected large scale surveys before (1000+ participants), and are comfortable designing and deploying them
  • You are highly experienced in R and/or Python, and are experienced in / eager to learn Databricks, with an interest in creating reusable processing pipelines
  • You are a proficient data scientist, and know when to use which analytical method
  • You enjoy working with a variety of external stakeholders, and can effectively understand what research insights empower them best
  • You enjoy working in a fast-paced, entrepreneurial environment where you can both lead strategically and build hands-on

Location: This role is based in London with 2 days/week in office

Travel: No travel expected
