    Employment Details 

    Title: Special Education Coordinator

    Reports To: Director of Special Education

    Commitment: Full- Time

    Term: 12 Months Annually

     

    About The Position 

    The Special Education Coordinator is an administrative, 12-month leadership position who supports the Director of Special Education in overseeing the school's special education programs, ensuring compliance with federal, state, and local regulations. This role provides leadership, supervision, and professional development to staff, assists with program development, advocates for students with disabilities to ensure equitable access to high-quality educational services, and is part of the school-based Leadership Team.

    • Assist in the planning, implementation, and evaluation of all special education programs and services.
    • Ensure district-wide compliance with the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA), Section 504, and state regulations.
      • This includes sending out documents via Docusign for signatures, maintaining spreadsheets with upcoming deadlines, and communicating with staff about upcoming deadlines. 
    • Supervise, support, and evaluate special education staff, including special education teachers, related service providers, and paraprofessionals.
      • This includes serving as an Instructional Support Leader / Coach for some SPED staff.
    • Serve as LEA and facilitate IEP (Individualized Education Program) meetings, ensuring quality, legal compliance, and student-centered practices.
    • Oversee appropriate placement and service delivery for students with disabilities.
    • Collaborate with principals, general education teachers, and related service providers to support inclusive practices and differentiated instruction.
    • Provide ongoing professional development and training to district staff regarding best practices in special education and legal requirements.
    • Analyze student data to guide instructional and programmatic decisions, including regular collaboration with the MTSS team and Psychologist
    • Monitor and support the transition processes for students moving between grade levels, schools, or post-secondary environments.
    • Serve as the acting Director in the Director's absence.
    • Other duties as determined by the SPED Director 

    Qualifications

    • Master's degree in Special Education, Educational Leadership, or related field.
    • Minimum of five years of experience in special education, including leadership or supervisory roles.
    • Strong knowledge of special education laws, instructional strategies, and inclusion practices.
    • Excellent communication, problem-solving, and organizational skills.
    • Ability to build positive, collaborative relationships with students, staff, families, and community partners.

     

    Compensation: Approximately 90K, commensurate with degrees and years experience.
