Job Description

JOB SUMMARY  

A sleep technologist trainee works under the direct supervision of a registered polysomnographer to provide comprehensive evaluation and treatment of sleep disorders in the sleep testing center, diagnostic and therapeutic interventions, comprehensive patientcare and direct patient education. A sleep technologist trainee is able to perform the duties of a sleep technologist so long as a RPSGT is present. The sleep technologist trainee is enrolled in an accredited educational program leading to an associate degree with an emphasis on sleep technology and has graduated and is awaiting registry. 

RESPONSIBILITIES AND SCOPE 

  • Performs polysomnographic data acquisition while monitoring tracing quality to ensure signals are artifact-free. Identifies and corrects signal abnormalities.  

  • Documents routine observations, including sleep stages and clinical events, changes in procedure and other significant events to facilitate scoring and interpretation of polysomnographic results. Scores sleep studies. 

  • Evaluates situations/patient conditions when clinical intervention is required so that no patient condition deteriorates as a result of misjudgment. Recognizes and acton panic values during testing.  

  • Maintains/documents on medical record according to policy and maintains files and handles documents appropriately. 

  • Assists with care, maintenance and tracking of equipment/supplies. Alerts supervisor of need for repair and processes equipment according to policy. Alerts supervisor of low stock levels. 

QUALIFICATIONS 

Sleep technologist trainees must be enrolled in an accredited educational program leading to an associate degree with an emphasis on sleep technology or have graduated from such program and is awaiting registry.
