Position Summary: Engineering Prototype Specialist
Location: Etters, PA
Summary: The Engineering Prototype Specialist will be responsible for supporting HSIO connector and OverPass product and process development, customer prototypes, test sample coordination, fixture development, prototype part fabrication, data collection, and design variations.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Collaborate with team members and supervisors to ensure project deadlines are met.
- Read and interpret technical drawings and schematics
- Create prototype parts using machining and 3D printing equipment to support product development, customer samples, test samples, fixtures, and design iterations.
- Operate, maintain, and write/edit code for CNC Tormach machine, to fabricate and modify prototype parts and tooling.
- Operate and maintain 3D printer(s) to create prototype parts, fixtures, mock-ups, and design iterations.
- Use machine shop tools, including manual mills with end mills, manual lathes, drills, taps, and hand tools, to fabricate, modify, and troubleshoot parts and tools.
- Ability to use CAD software.
- Ability to make product design modifications in CAD to facilitate prototype fabrication.
- Coordinate and build mock-ups to facilitate product designs.
- Make test reports and presentations using Microsoft Office software
- Conduct testing, record data and present results.
- The ability to question results to ensure data accuracy is necessary.
- Organize and graph data for easy comparison and presentation.
- Preform electrical testing, including Low Level Contact Resistance (LLCR)
- Organize and prepare product and tooling for testing
- Maintain a clean and organized workspace in compliance with safety and quality standards.
- Work with mechanical and SI test labs in the completion of mechanical and signal integrity tests.
- All assignments must be completed in a safe manner in compliance with accepted engineering standards with minimal or no supervision.
- Prepare high-speed cables for testing.
Education and/or Experience:
Associate’s degree or certificate from college or technical school; or three to six months related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Technical Skills and Abilities:
Candidate must demonstrate skills and understanding of the following basic connector and cable assembly operations:
- Strong attention to details
- Experience with using 3D CAD software such as SolidWorks
- Experience utilizing 3D printers to create prototype parts, fixtures, mock-ups, and design iterations.
- Familiar with Microsoft Office software such as Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
- Other software such as MiniTab is a plus
- Reading and interpreting mechanical drawing prints
- Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to work independently or as part of a team.
- Ability to read and understand technical schematics and instructions.
- Familiarity with machine shop tools such as manual mills, end mills, lathes, drills, taps, and other hand tools.
- Ability to operate, maintain, and program CNC equipment, preferably Tormach, including writing and editing G-code/CAM programs.
- Hands-on experience machining prototype parts and tooling using manual mills, end mills, lathes, and other shop equipment.
- Ability to make accurate and repeatable measurements using tool makers microscope or other high precision measurement equipment
- Excellent hand-eye coordination and manual dexterity.
- Ability to work under a stereoscope
- Experience in soldering electronic components with a strong attention to detail is a plus.
- Soldering certification is preferred (e.g., IPC J-STD-001 or equivalent).
- Familiarity with various soldering techniques and equipment.
- Soldering of wires
- A minimum of (1) year of practical experience in connector and/or cable assembly manufacturing is preferred.
