Description

The Fairfield Y is seeking an enthusiastic and dedicated Swim Team Coach to lead and oversee our competitive swim program. This role is essential in fostering a positive, supportive, and engaging atmosphere that encourages swimmers of all levels to develop their skills, build confidence, and achieve their personal best. The Swim Team Coach will provide direct leadership, instruction, and motivation while ensuring the safety and enjoyment of all participants.

Requirements

  • Must be at least 21 years old with a minimum of 3 years’ experience coaching a competitive swim program.
  • Certifications required (or must be obtained within specified timeframes):
    • Lifeguarding, CPRPR, First Aid, AED, O2
    • ASCA (American Swimming Coaches Association) certification
    • YMCA Coaching certification
    • Safety Training for Swim Coaches (within first 30 days)
    • Safe Sport Act training (within first 90 days)
  • Strong knowledge of competitive swimming techniques, training methods, and psychological aspects of the sport.
  • Active membership in local, regional, and national swim coaching organizations preferred.
  • Proven leadership abilities in supervising, recruiting, training, and supporting staff and volunteers.
  • Excellent planning, organizational, and communication skills.
  • Ability to work in and around the water for extended periods and pass aquatic proficiency tests.
  • Ability to lift up to 25 pounds and respond effectively to emergencies in a busy pool environment.

Summary

As the Swim Team Coach, you will be responsible for developing and managing the swim team program in alignment with YMCA values. Your key duties include:

 

  • Designing and leading swim practices and meet schedules.
  • Recruiting, training, and evaluating coaching staff and volunteers.
  • Organizing team travel, events, and budget planning.
  • Ensuring safety, compliance with YMCA policies, and fostering a positive experience for all participants.
  • Serving as an ambassador for all YMCA aquatics programs and engaging with families and the community.
