The team you will be a part of
The R&E (Ramp & Extraction) team constitutes a critical pillar within the Performance system-level product behavior. This team is responsible for developing, calibrating, and optimizing spin performance and advanced algorithms for top-load and front-load washing machines. Within this team, you will operate at the intersection of data acquisition and analysis, mechanical dynamics, control systems, and software, collaborating closely with the Cycle Design (CD) and Settings File (SF) teams to deliver world-class consumer experiences.
This role in summary
The Specialist Engineering will provide foundational support for the development and validation of spin performance and algorithms. Reporting to the R&E Manager, you will primarily focus on executing standardized tests, collecting data, and assisting higher-level engineers in technical project tasks. This is an entry-level role designed to build technical expertise in laundry product behavior and data-driven engineering.
Your responsibilities will include
- Tune algorithms capable of estimating the dynamic response of washing machines and responding in a manner that satisfies product requirements (e.g., off-balance load detection, load sensing, water extraction, etc.).
- Develop an understanding of the physics that govern a spinning wash basket (i.e., rotational inertia) and its influence on the washer as a system; Use these principles for the construction of engineering trade-off analyses and models.
- Understand the Voice of the Consumer (VOC) to appropriate engineering metrics and targets in pursuit of optimized spin performance for washers.
- Collaborate with product architecture, subsystems, and cross-functional teams to integrate the Ramp & Extraction module within projects; Manage requirements, specifications, validation test plans, and other engineering documentation for the Ramp & Extraction module within the project portfolio (new product introductions, cost & quality projects).
- Ensure behavior robustness using Six Sigma tools, Critical Parameter Management, and statistical analysis.Deliver algorithms and spin phase behaviors that are robust to product and field variation, demonstrating engineering rigor through the use of tools including Six Sigma, sequential experimentation, Failure Modes & Effects Analysis (FMEA), Design Verification Plans (DVP), and Critical Parameter Management/Cpk.
- Coordinate test activities and have a hands-on presence in the labs, including product/instrumentation setup, test procedure execution, data acquisition, and analysis.
Minimum requirements
- Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical, Electrical, Mechatronics, Controls/Automation, or Computer Engineering with an expected completion time of up to 2 years;
- Familiarity in data acquisition and analysis (Preferred: Python/Matlab).
- Intermediate / Advanced in English
Preferred skills and experiences
- Prior experience in the appliance/consumer goods industry or other relevant industry experience.
- Master’s Degree in Engineering with a focus on Controls, Dynamics, or Mechatronics.
- 1-2 years of experience in product development or a laboratory environment.
- Background knowledge in Controls and Dynamics.Critical analysis of data and system feedback.
- Affinity for hands-on work in a lab environment.
- Data-driven problem-solving mindset.
