Job Description

POSITION:  Server and Infrastructure Administrator


 


EXEMPT STATUS: Exempt


 


NUMBER OF DAYS:  217


 


PAY GRADE:  Tech PG-4

REPORTS TO:  Sr. Network Administrator


 


SUPERVISES:  None


 


EDUCATION:   


Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university preferred OR


Comparable relevant work experience


 


EXPERIENCE:      Two years successful experience with installing and maintaining Windows   servers; Experience with database maintenance and network switching equipment preferred


 
























Position Function/Purpose


To assist the Network Administrator with installing, loading and maintaining network operating system hardware and software to support the MISD computer systems.


 



Major Responsibilities


Network Management


  1.  Assist Network Administrator with installing and maintaining network operating system


       software.


  2.  Assist the Network Administrator with installation and maintenance of network hardware.


  3.  Assist in trouble shooting, diagnosing and repairing network and data communication 


       problems.


  4.  Design, document, test, and administer server-based user profiles as required.


  5.  Analyze and determine computer users’ hardware, software, and computer system needs


         computer system.                                   


  6.  Back-up administrative LAN/WAN servers keeping accurate records of the dates and files.


  7.  Assist school personnel in installing network software.


  8.  Assist operations staff with duties in the computer room and on campuses.


  9.  Design, develop, document, and test computer systems, based on design specification or 


       computer users’ needs.


10.  Assist with other Computer Services departmental responsibilities as needed.


       Administration and Fiscal/Facilities Management


 11.  Perform such other duties as may be assigned or as may be necessary by the Network


        Administrator.


 12.  Occasional network maintenance and emergency response outside of business hours.


        Data Communications


 13.  Assist with maintenance and installation of network communication devices.


 


    Professional Growth and Development


 14. Observe professional and ethical standards in accordance with generally accepted 


       community standards and the Texas Education Agency code of ethics.


15.  Secure advance training in any new equipment software being considered for adoption by 


       the District.


16.  Read the current literature in the field.


 


 


 



Qualification Requirements


1.  Knowledge of microcomputer and server configurations


2.  Familiarity with local area network topologies, wiring schemes, and operating systems


3.  Knowledge of Windows personal computer and server operating system installations and   


     configurations


4.  Knowledge of SAN and backup systems


5.  Knowledge of data communication equipment and terminology


6.  Ability to effectively communicate with school personnel, systems staff and computer 


     technicians, with courtesy and professionalism.


7.  Ability to work well with a diverse population
