Job Title: Head Start Assistant Teacher ( Full Day, Full Year)


Job Title Code: 2143

Department:  Sarpy County/ESU #3 Head Start


FLSA Status:  Non-Exempt


Immediate Supervisor:  Head Start Teacher (Certified); Assistant Coordinator

Essential Requirements:  



  1. High School Diploma is required; along with

  2. Current Child Development Associate (CDA) Credential (or comparable credential) with training or equivalent coursework in early childhood development with a focus on infant/toddler development; or

  3. Associates Degree with at least 12 semester hours of undergraduate or graduate credit in child development/early childhood education.

  4. Assistant Teachers hired without required credentials will complete an education plan which includes enrolling in a CDA credential program or enrolling in college courses to be completed within two years of the time of hire (at the expense of the employee, pending availability of grant funds).

  5. Ability to obtain CPR/First Aid certification within three months of hire.

  6. Head Start experience preferred but not required.

  7. Basic computer skills, photocopier/facsimile, and other technology related to job requirements.

  8. No history of child abuse or negligence.

  9. Successfully pass required background checks.

  10. Regular and dependable in person attendance is required and is considered a condition of employment.

  11. The assigned duties of this position are not eligible for remote work consideration.

  12. This position is eligible for VEOA Veterans Preference.


      


       Essential Responsibilities: 



  1. Understand and comply with the ESU #3 Board of Education Personnel Policies and Employee Handbook.

  2. Ensure compliance with grant requirements, Program Performance Standards, Nebraska Department of Education Rule 11 and Head Start policies and procedures.

  3. Utilize active supervision guidelines to ensure that all necessary and reasonable precautions are taken to protect children and monitor the learning environment for health and safety.

  4. Follow directions (both oral and written) in an efficient manner and assist with the preparation and supervision of various activities in the classroom, as directed by the Head Start teacher and/or other specialists.

  5. Support the HS teacher in organizing and creating an inviting learning environment and assist in helping children resolve conflicts and problem solve under the supervision and direction of the lead teacher.

  6. Attend all professional development activities as required by SCHS.

  7. Participate in health and nutrition activities to include (but not limited to) CACFP, NapSACC, family style meals.

  8. Support and maintain a positive work environment through open communication and collaboration with SCHS co-workers, specialists and supervisors.

  9. Maintain confidentiality regarding co-workers, agency, family and child information.

  10. Other duties as assigned.
