About the Department

Carteret Community College (Morehead City, NC) is seeking a dependable and motivated individual to serve as a part-time, temporary Landscape Technician/Groundskeeper. This position plays a vital role in maintaining the appearance, safety, and cleanliness of the college’s outdoor spaces. The ideal candidate will be detail-oriented, safety-conscious, and able to work independently or as part of a team.

 Hourly Rate:  $10 to $15 per hour, commensurate with experience

Position Duties

• Mow lawns, trim edges, and maintain flower beds and landscaped areas
• Prune shrubs, trees, and hedges to ensure healthy growth and neat appearance
• Weed, mulch, water, and fertilize outdoor plantings
• Remove litter, debris, and leaves from walkways, parking lots, and green spaces
• Assist with seasonal tasks including snow/ice removal, leaf cleanup, and planting
• Operate and maintain groundskeeping equipment such as mowers, blowers, trimmers, and small tractors
• Report safety hazards, equipment malfunctions, or maintenance issues to supervisor
• Follow safety procedures and wear appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE)
• Other duties as assigned

Minimum Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED preferred
• Prior experience in landscaping, grounds maintenance, or a related field preferred
• Basic knowledge of lawn care, plant maintenance, and safe equipment operation
• Ability to perform physical labor including lifting up to 50 pounds, bending, and working outdoors in various weather conditions
• Reliable transportation
• Strong, collaborative work ethic
