Job Description

About the Department

This work is unskilled and manual in nature.  Applicants may be assigned to work as a Laborer in the Parks or Street Department.

Park Department work schedule: Hours are normally Monday through Thursday, 6:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.,  and Friday 6:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. (40 hours per week).  Additional night and weekend hours as needed.

Street Department work schedule:  Hours are normally Monday through Thursday, 5:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. (40 hours per week)

Street Department Sign Shop work schedule:  Hours are normally Monday through Thursday, 5:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. with earlier times when painting.  These earlier hours are generally 3:00 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. or 2:00 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Monday - Thursday (40 hours per week).  $1.00 per hour shift premium.
 
Lunch is one-half hour and is unpaid.

Applications will be reviewed on a continuous basis.
 

Position Duties

Duties vary depending on the department assignment and may include:

Perform various parks maintenance duties such as clean restrooms, mow grass, line trim, water flowers, spray/pull weeds, mulch beds, trash collection, and event prep.
 
Assists full-time staff in the performance of facility and grounds maintenance work.

Performs various street maintenance duties such as cleaning gutters, catch basins, and asphalt patching.

Assists in the collection of garbage, rubbish, recycling, brush, sign maintenance, sewer truck, and sewer camera.

Sign installation and pavement markings. 

Assists other members of crew in various work assignments and performs other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

Ability to pull and back up various trailers. 

Knowledge of power and hand tools used in maintenance and construction.

Ability to operate line trimmers, mowers, and other small equipment. Ability to perform manual labor for an extended period of time in all types of weather conditions. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships. Ability to learn the general layout of the City and to learn the routes to other locations.

Other Qualifications

At least 18 years of age by first day of employment.
Valid Wisconsin driver's license and good driving record.
