Organizational Structure: Engineering is organized into Teams and Disciplines within the Innovative Solutions Division. The Director of Manufacturing & Industrial Engineering (Team 4) owns manufacturability, production readiness, and final engineering validation prior to release to Production. This role ensures designs are technically correct, buildable, safe, repeatable, and aligned with Nomad’s manufacturing capabilities and throughput requirements.
This role:
- Validates engineering output prior to Production release
- Ensures manufacturability, safety, and repeatability across all disciplines
- Protects engineering intent while enabling Production throughput
- Does not invent, configure, or standardize designs
Measures of Success:
- First-pass Design-for-Manufacture-and-Assembly (DFMA) acceptance rate
- Reduction in production rework and clarifications
- Manufacturing throughput and takt time improvements
- Reduction in production deviations and workarounds
- Clear and auditable manufacturing documentation
Responsibilities:
Manufacturing & Industrial Engineering Execution
- Own DFMA review and approval prior to Production release.
- Ensure designs are buildable, safe, repeatable, and clearly documented.
- Reject incomplete, unclear, or unmanufacturable designs and return them for correction.
Production Readiness & Validation
- Serve as the final engineering validation gate before designs are released to Production.
- Ensure Production never needs to reinterpret engineering intent or create workarounds.
- Validate tooling, fixtures, layouts, and workflows required for execution.
Industrial Engineering & Throughput Optimization
- Optimize takt time, layouts, tooling efficiency, and labor utilization.
- Establish and improve manufacturing cells and lines.
- Drive continuous improvement initiatives to reduce waste and increase throughput.
Cross-Team Collaboration & Feedback
- Partner with Team 1 to provide manufacturability feedback for standards improvement.
- Collaborate with Team 2 and Team 3 to address manufacturability risks early.
- Capture Production and field feedback and feed systemic issues into Standards & Modularity.
Resource Coordination & Leadership
- Lead Manufacturing Engineering and Industrial Engineering resources assigned to Team 4.
- Coordinate with Discipline Managers on staffing and capability needs.
- Set clear expectations for technical rigor, validation discipline, and delivery.
Education and Experience:
Required:
- 8+ years engineering experience with progressive leadership responsibility.
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering (Mechanical, Electrical, Software, Systems, Human Factors, or related). Equivalent experience considered.
Degree must be ABET accredited. - Demonstrated ownership of engineering standards, architectures, modular platforms, or reusable systems across multiple programs.
- Strong cross-functional leadership: ability to align stakeholders, drive decisions, and deliver through influence.
- Roadmap scoping, estimation, and delivery management experience.
Preferred:
- Experience in complex integrated systems (mobile/industrial systems, connected systems, safety-critical or operator-facing products).
- Familiarity with configuration management, requirements discipline, verification/validation frameworks, and release governance.
- Background collaborating with manufacturing and field/service teams to translate feedback into engineering improvements.

Physical Demands:
- Ability to stand and sit for extended periods.
- Manual dexterity to operate office equipment.

Working Environment:
- Professional office environment with regular interaction with guests, clients, team members, and vendors.
- Typical indoor manufacturing environment. Noise level is usually moderate. Safety glasses and closed-toe shoes are required when on the production floor.
- Everyday workwear must be business casual/smart casual and appropriate for the office environment.
- Subject to temperatures fluctuations if/when job duties require time on the production floor.
- Expected to maintain a professional image and demeanor on company property and while representing the company off-site.
