The City of Fayetteville is currently recruiting for an IT Data Analytics Specialist to query and interpret structured, semi structured and unstructured data from different sources and share findings. Work with a variety of tools, platforms, and statistical software to ensure data integrity. Differentiate between internal and external datasets for content presentations. Understand trends, create meaningful statistics, and prepare solutions that appropriately guide decisions.
Position Duties
- Pull and organize data from databases, spreadsheets, and online platforms.
- Write/run queries and create dashboards for City departments to make information easier to use and understand.
- Work with the various departments, the City Manager and the leadership team on assignments that require immediate data interpretation and/or critical analysis. Present findings to various audiences (internally/externally/city council, etc.) as required and directed.
- Identify trends, gaps, and opportunities using modern analytics tools.
- Ensure data is handled securely and responsibly, meeting local, state, and federal requirements, including Criminal Justice Information Services (CJIS) compliance.
- Support the development of predictive models that can help prepare for future needs.

Minimum Qualifications
Any combination of experience and training that would likely provide the required knowledge and abilities is qualifying. A typical way to obtain the knowledge and abilities would be:
Experience:
Two years of experience in data analysis, business intelligence, or related work.
Training:
Equivalent to an Associate’s degree in data science, statistics, computer science, or a related field.
LICENSING & CERTIFICATIONS:
Required:
None.
Preferred:
Certified Analytics Professional (CAP), Certified Data Management Professional (CDMP),Microsoft Power BI Data Analyst Associate, Python or R-related professional certificates, or an AI certification.
Please Note: Candidates selected for a position within the Information Technology Department will be required to successfully complete a Police Department and fingerprint based background check.
- SBI/Fingerprinting Criminal History Record Check Requirement: To comply with Sessions Law 2025-16, applicants offered a position with the City may be subject to a criminal history record check of State and National Repositories of Criminal Histories conducted by the State Bureau of Investigation (SBI) in accordance with G.S. 143B-1209.26. The City may consider the results of these criminal history record checks in its hiring decisions.
From the time of closing, the selection process is anticipated to last approximately 4 - 6 weeks. The process will consist of a panel interview with the selected candidate being subject to a pre-employment drug screen, background check and driving history check.
