JOB DUTIES: The position is part of the Kaua'i Region Medical Group, a 501(c)(3) tax-exempt organization, with the Hawai'i Health Systems Corporation (HHSC) Kaua'i Region serving as its sole member. The HHSC Kaua'i Region encompasses Kaua'i Veterans Memorial Hospital (KVMH), Samuel Mahelona Memorial Hospital (SMMH), and the Kaua'i Region Clinics.
The Advanced Practice Provider (APP) (Nurse Practitioner (NP)) provides behavioral health healthcare services to patients in collaboration with other providers. Responsibilities include case management, performing diagnostic and therapeutic procedures, and delivering quality, efficient, and cost-effective care during patient visits. The APP (NP) conducts physical examinations and health assessments, formulates diagnoses, implements treatment plans, and evaluates follow-up care to promote health, prevent disease, and manage acute and chronic illnesses. This role includes providing consultative and educational services to other providers and staff, improving and developing policies and procedures, and performing additional duties as assigned. The position is regional and requires long hours, weekend and holiday work, and travel to various clinics within the region to meet patient care needs. The position reports directly to the Regional Chief Medical Officer (RCMO) or their designee.
THE MINIMUM QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS ARE: Applicants must meet all of the following requirements. Please note that unless specifically indicated; the required education and experiences may not be gained concurrently. In addition, qualifying work experiences are based on a 40-hour work week. Evidence of applicable education, licensure, certifications, etc. are required.
EDUCATION: Graduation from an accredited Advanced Practice Registered Nurse (APRN) program.
EXPERIENCE: A minimum of three (3) to five (5) years of professional experience as a licensed APRN.
SUPERVISORY APTITUDE: Candidates must provide demonstration of aptitude or potential for the performance of supervisory duties through successful completion of regular or special assignments, which involve some supervisory responsibilities or aspects; by serving as a group or team leader, previous work experience in a position that demonstrates or performs supervisory functions or in similar work in which opportunities for demonstrating supervisory capabilities exist; by completion of training courses in supervision accompanies by application of supervisory skills in work assignments; or by favoravle appraisals by a supervisor indicating the possession of supervisory potential.
CERTIFICATIONS:
- Current certification in specialized and advanced nursing practice in a recognized specialty area from an accredited program approved by a national certifying body acknowledged by the Board of Nursing; and
- Current certifications issued by the American Heart Association (AHA) in Basic Life Support (BLS) (adults, child, infant, etc.) for Healthcare Workers and Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) are required.
- Candidates for certain specialties may be required to possess current certifications issued by the AHA in Pediatric Advanced Life Support (ACLS) and or in the Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP).
- Current certification from the National Certifying Exam administered by the American Association of Nurse Practitioners (AANP) is preferred.
LICENSURES:
- Certification as an APRN with Prescriptive Authority (for both controlled and non-controlled substances) from the State of Hawai'i, Department of Commerce & Consumer Affairs (DCCA) at the time of appointment; and
- A current, valid State of Hawai'i Type 3 driver's license is preferred.
PREFERRED SKILLS & ABILITIES:
- Knowledge of: nursing theory and practice; nursing techniques and procedures; nursing literature and current trends and development in nursing.
- Ability to: apply nursing theory and practice in planning and giving nursing care; recognize, interpret, and evaluate symptoms of the patient's condition and take appropriate action; initiate and maintain working relationships with members of the medical staff, administration, nursing, and other departments, and agencies affiliated with the hospital.

If you do not submit your request within the twenty (20) days deadline, no Administrative Review will be conducted. Since the Administrative Review is a prerequisite to subsequent steps, failure to utilize this process will make you ineligible for subsequent appeals. The administrative review, formal complaint and/or appeals hearing will not necessarily postpone the recruitment process and/or rescind a selection.
