About the Department
Operates tandem dump trucks for hauling material and transporting equipment for maintenance and construction operations. Operates medium-sized equipment such as belt loaders, large rollers (> 4 tons), skid steer loader, tractor with large mower (>10' wide), and trailer-mounted injection patcher in conjunction with highway and bridge maintenance operations. Operates and maintains powered tools in various phases of roadway maintenance related to assigned tasks such as tree and vegetation removal, cleaning pipes and ditches, concrete sidewalk and gutter repair and maintenance, limb trimming, weed eating, facility maintenance, litter and dead animal removal, etc. Operates standard dump trucks with trailers. Conducts safety inspection on all assigned vehicles and equipment. Monitors the preventative maintenance program of equipment to ensure a routine maintenance schedule is followed and to monitor equipment use and wear to prolong equipment life. Operates standard dump truck with snow plow attachment and sand spreader to remove snow and ice from highways and bridges. Assists in emergency or inclement weather operations, which may include being available for extended hours or 12-hour shifts. Performs other related duties as assigned.
Position Duties
Six (6) months of related work experience; or an approved acceptable equivalence. Necessary Special Requirement: A valid motor vehicle operator’s license is required. Requires attainment of a Class A Commercial Driver's License (CDL) within six (6) months of placement in the position.
The physical demands for the essential functions involves bending, stooping, reaching, twisting, climbing, balancing, kneeling, pushing, pulling, and grasping. Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs. Walking for extended periods, treading rough terrain, working in close proximity to motoring traffic, and in natural environmental hazards. May be required to work outside normal scheduled work week; especially during inclement weather.
