Work Experience Description:

Suitable for students with basic foundational knowledge and little to no practical experience, ideal for freshmen or sophomores who have completed only introductory courses.

Job Summary

The Student Theatre Technician provides hands-on support for theatre productions and events. Responsibilities include assisting with set construction, operating technical equipment, and supporting rehearsals and performances. This role is open to students with all experience levels—from beginners with genuine interest to students with previous technical theatre experience. Training will be provided.

Primary Responsibilities

• Assist with set construction, painting, repairs, and backstage organization

• Support the setup and operation of lighting, sound, and other production systems

• Aid in stage management tasks during rehearsals and performances

• Help manage and maintain theatre spaces, props, and equipment

• Participate in load-ins, strikes, and other production-related activities

• Follow safety procedures and contribute to a clean, organized work environment

• Perform other duties as assigned

Required Qualifications

• Currently enrolled BYUH student

• Reliable, punctual, and able to follow instructions

• Willingness to learn technical theatre skills

• Ability to work evenings and weekends as needed for productions

• Ability to lift, carry, climb ladders, and perform physical tasks

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience in technical theatre, stage crew, carpentry, lighting, audio, or live event support

• Basic understanding of theatre production elements

• Previous teamwork or project-based work experience

Skills

• Strong work ethic and dependability

• Good organization and time-management

• Willingness to learn and apply new skills

• Ability to collaborate effectively in a fast-paced environment

Additional Information

This position offers hands-on training in professional theatre practices and is ideal for students interested in stage production, design, live events, or exploring a future in the performing arts. Flexible scheduling is available, but some evening and weekend hours may be required based on rehearsal and performance calendars.
