1. Always records phlebotomy collection information into the Laboratory Information System with accurate attention to name of patient, collection time, and receive time. |
2. Accurately and successfully performs venipunctures, following phlebotomy policies and procedures |
3. Accurately and successfully performs finger sticks on adult and pediatric patients, following phlebotomy policies and procedures. |
4. Accurately and successfully performs heel sticks on infants, following phlebotomy policies and procedures. |
5. Maintains phlebotomy trays/area, supply area, and waiting room in a clean and orderly fashion. |
6. Always follows patient identification policies and procedures. Labels samples in presence of the patient. |
7. Performs general duties and task according to standards provided by regularly agencies for laboratory accreditation (i.e. TJC NPSGs, etc.). |
8. Accurately collects chain of custody urine samples and completes collection documentation. |
9. Always follows laboratory requirements for use of personal protection equipment. |
10. Accurately demonstrates general computer skills necessary for order entry and medical necessity for lab order in laboratory computer system. |
11. Willing checks outpatient orders for issue, fax results, and follow ups on patient collection issues. |
12. Maintains adequate inventory of laboratory supplies and ensures that all supplies are viable before use in patient testing; assures rotation of reagent stock so that oldest materials are used first. |
13. Demonstrates safe and effective use of all patient equipment and adheres to hospital policy regarding use of equipment with alarm systems. |
14. Demonstrates knowledge of testing methods, products for explanation to patient; remains informed on all current reference test requirements. |
15. Initiates the meeting of responsibilities without prompting and performs with minimal supervision. |
16. Shares off-shift work as needed and is available to work in crisis situation. |
17. Completes work in a timely manner and willing help co-works to complete section duties |
18. Maintains effective working relationships with hospital employees, physicians, administrative staff and department managers. |
