The Quality Assurance Manager monitors the condition of raw materials before and during production and finished products after they are manufactured to assure they meet White Castle System, Inc., USDA, and FDA specifications. This position will be responsible for maintaining and improving the quality control program to ensure that finished products meet specifications. The Incumbent will give guidance, direction, and training to all team members with regard to Quality, Food Safety, HACCP, Food Defense, SQF, and GMP requirements. This position will serve as the Lead SQF Practitioner. This position description does not contain a comprehensive list of required duties and responsibilities. The Quality Assurance Manager is expected to perform related duties assigned by management, which may be added, revised, or eliminated based on business and operational needs, with or without advance notice.

 

What we are looking for

  • Bachelor’s degree in food science, Biology, Microbiology or related field with general knowledge of statistical process control, bacterial control, and sanitation methods is required;
  • At least five to seven years’ experience in production methods and root cause analysis preferred; and
  • Strong knowledge of SQF, FDA, and USDA Regulations and Directives, HACCP, SOP’s, and GMP’s;
  • Must be a self-starter and able to shift priorities and anticipate operational requirements;
  • Possess functional knowledge of how all equipment in the quality lab is designed to operate; includes Electronic Scale, Electronic Temperature Probe, High Pressure Washer, Temperature Recorders and Bioluminescence;
  • Proficient computer experience with knowledge of Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, and Excel;
  • Strong employee relations, verbal communication, and teamwork skills, including the ability to give and receive direction and to follow detailed instructions;
  • Ability to stay focused and accomplish multiple tasks independently with little supervision and within established timeframes;
  • Effective communication skills to relay the company’s agenda on quality, food safety, and team member morale;
  • Must have excellent leadership and decision-making skills; and
  • Ability to successfully complete on-the-job training.

 

What you will do

  • Selection, supervision, training, and guidance of quality and sanitation departments;
  • Oversee performance management for team members of the quality and sanitation departments;
  • Coordination, development, and supervision of policies and procedures relating to food safety and quality including: GMP’s, HACCP, SSOP’s, and SQF. Lead the HACCP team;
  • Perform pre-operational and operational facility inspections to identify problems and offer practical solutions to those problems;
  • Perform raw material and finished product inspections and analyses, and train Quality team members to perform these functions;
  • Maintain and procure inventory of quality, sanitation, safety, and production supplies;
  • Responsible for all inspection reports and proper filing;
  • Responsible for purchasing quality, production, sanitation, GMP materials, safety, and pest control supplies;
  • Comply with incident reporting policies and procedures;
  • Adhere to Plant’s security and safety policies and procedures;
  • Communicate effectively with customers and all levels of the organization in a professional manner, display a positive demeanor and be responsive to the teams’ needs; and
  • Must be flexible to work hours to meet the needs of the plant, including evenings, weekends, and holidays.

 

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Ability to work in an environment with occasional exposure to noise, heat, cold, fumes, smoke, cleaners, and other elements;
  • Wearing safety gear including safety glasses and other various types of safety gear supplied by the company;
  • Frequent periods of standing, sitting, and walking;
  • Frequent pushing, pulling, and lifting 75 lbs.(unassisted/assisted); and
  • Ability to listen, comprehend, and professionally respond to co-worker inquiries, comments, and concerns.
