Job Summary


Carlisle Area School District is seeking a dedicated, student-centered, and highly qualified professional to serve as an Autism Support Teacher. This individual will provide specialized instruction and behavioral support to students with autism spectrum disorders, ensuring access to the general education curriculum while addressing individualized learning, communication, and social-emotional needs.


 


Key Responsibilities



  • Develop and implement Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) aligned with student needs and state standards.

  • Provide direct, specially designed instruction in academic, behavioral, communication, and social skill areas.

  • Utilize evidence-based practices to support students with autism, including applied behavior strategies and structured teaching approaches.

  • Collect, analyze, and use data to monitor student progress and adjust instruction accordingly.

  • Collaborate with general education teachers to support inclusion and access to the general education environment.

  • Serve as a member of the IEP team, including communication with parents/guardians and related service providers.

  • Implement and monitor behavior support plans and de-escalation strategies as needed.

  • Coordinate with related service providers (e.g., speech-language pathologists, occupational therapists, behavior specialists).

  • Maintain accurate and compliant documentation in accordance with state and federal regulations.

  • Support paraprofessionals through training, guidance, and daily supervision within the classroom setting.


Qualifications



  • Valid Pennsylvania Special Education Certification required PK-12.

  • Experience working with students with autism preferred.

  • Bachelor’s degree required.

  • Strong knowledge of behavior intervention strategies, and evidence-based instructional practices.

  • Demonstrated ability to collaborate effectively with staff, families, and outside agencies.

  • Strong communication, organizational, and classroom management skills.


Additional Information


This is a 180-day professional position with competitive salary and benefits in accordance with the collective bargaining agreement. The Autism Support Teacher will work collaboratively with building and district staff to support the academic, behavioral, and social success of students.
