Summary:
The Hole Watch/Fire Watch – HRSG/Boiler Services role is a critical safety-focused position within the Oil & Gas industry, specifically supporting high-pressure, high-temperature boiler and Heat Recovery Steam Generator (HRSG) operations. This role ensures the continuous monitoring of hot work areas, confined spaces, and critical equipment zones to prevent fire hazards, unauthorized access, and operational risks during maintenance, inspection, or repair activities. The incumbent serves as a frontline safety guardian, maintaining strict vigilance during and after hot work operations to safeguard personnel, assets, and the integrity of plant systems. This position is essential in upholding compliance with OSHA, API, and company-specific safety standards, contributing directly to the safe execution of critical maintenance projects across power generation and refining facilities. The role demands unwavering attention to detail, situational awareness, and the ability to respond swiftly to potential emergencies, making it a cornerstone of operational safety in high-risk environments.
Responsibilities:
- Conduct continuous visual and auditory monitoring of hot work zones, confined spaces, and adjacent areas during and after welding, cutting, or other ignition-source activities.
- Maintain a 100% watch presence for the duration of hot work and for a minimum of 30–60 minutes post-operation to detect and respond to any signs of smoldering or fire.
- Enforce strict adherence to permit-to-work systems, ensuring all safety protocols, fire prevention measures, and isolation procedures are verified and documented.
- Communicate effectively with supervisors, maintenance teams, and safety officers to report anomalies, near misses, or safety concerns in real time.
- Perform routine inspections of fire extinguishers, emergency equipment, and fire watch zones to ensure readiness and compliance.
- Respond immediately to alarms, emergency signals, or indications of fire, smoke, or gas leaks, initiating emergency procedures and coordinating with response teams.
- Maintain accurate logs and records of watch periods, incidents, inspections, and communications in accordance with company and regulatory standards.
- Participate in safety meetings, drills, and training sessions to maintain competency and stay current with evolving safety practices.
- Support the implementation of fire prevention plans and emergency response strategies specific to HRSG and boiler systems.
Requirements:
- Proven ability to maintain sustained focus and alertness during extended watch periods in high-noise, high-temperature, or hazardous environments.
- Strong knowledge of fire prevention, hazard identification, and emergency response protocols specific to boiler and HRSG systems.
- Familiarity with permit-to-work systems, lockout/tagout (LOTO), and confined space entry procedures.
- Excellent communication and situational awareness skills, with the ability to make quick, accurate decisions under pressure.
- Physical stamina to work in demanding conditions, including elevated platforms, confined spaces, and extreme temperatures.
- Willingness to work rotating shifts, including nights, weekends, and holidays, as required by operational schedules.
