Position Summary:
The Assistant Director serves as a cornerstone of leadership within the Kids’ Club program, providing the operational backbone and professional standard for daily excellence. This role is designed for a high-level communicator who prioritizes a staff-centered culture, fostering a supportive environment through transparency, proactive organization, and mutual respect.
Under the guidance of the Director, you will bridge the gap between administrative vision and daily execution; ensuring that every staff member is empowered, every family is informed, and every student is safe and engaged.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree preferred or Associate’s degree in relevant field
- Two years of experience working with youth in a classroom, after school, or recreation environment
- Two years of experience in developing, leading, and supervising a childcare program/staff.
- Strong computer skills, including proficiency with standard office equipment and software
- Possess excellent communication, administrative, and leadership skills
- Must be detail-oriented and have the ability to multitask when necessary
- Must successfully complete FBI and BCI background checks
- Ability to drive district vehicles to transport children
Compensation/Benefits:
Minimum salary of $48,000 per year, placement commensurate with proven experience and skills based upon job qualifications and performance responsibilities outlined herein. Comprehensive benefits package included.
Essential Job Functions
Program Management
- Supervise and direct staff daily in cooperation with the Director.
- Support daily program needs by creating and directing all daily activities, communicating with scheduled staff and families, supporting behavior management and building culture.
- Assist the Director in hiring practices, including interviewing and onboarding.
- Preparation and communication regarding the daily/weekly schedule, including substitute staff, in coordination with Director.
- Plan and develop a creative learning environment in collaboration with the Director, including ownership of the complete summer program activity schedule.
- Create relationships with local community partners and facilitate in-house presentations and/or activities with the Kids’ Club students.
- Communicate and adhere to the site program schedule and calendar, including the variety of educational, enrichment, and recreational activities.
- Possess knowledge and an understanding of ODE’s school age childcare guidelines.
- Conduct observations of Kids’ Club staff and follow-up meetings with feedback on performance.
- Assist in formal evaluations with the Director.
- Assists new family onboarding through the District-approved childcare program application.
- Assist in maintaining, organizing, and retaining records, enrollment rosters, attendance, contact information, new hire paperwork, and staff evaluations
- Other duties as assigned by the Director
Communication
- Maintain professional, oral and written communication with parents, co-workers, program director and all school personnel.
- Availability between the hours of 6:45am - 6:15pm to support the program as needed (i.e. call-offs, vacation coverage, parent questions, and direct requests from supervisor).
- Utilizes the District-approved childcare application for ongoing communication with staff and families.
- Respond courteously and timely to all communication through email, phone or in person, including out-of-program hours for staff call-offs.
- Follows the district training guidelines for confidential information and respects the privacy of staff and students in discussion of non-confidential information.
Student Interaction
- Assists with student needs, responds promptly and courteously to questions from students.
- Ability to provide feedback and support to staff on a daily basis and apply the appropriate classroom or behavior management techniques. Act as a sub as needed.
- Knowledge of age-appropriate activities, behavior and positive discipline techniques.
Health & Safety
- Works with staff in immediate response to all injuries, making necessary decisions to administer First Aid, CPR, and/or contact Emergency Medical Service as well as ensuring the notification of parent/guardian and administrator as necessary.
- Provides student care in absence of the school nurse, arranges for ill students to be taken home.
- Assist in family communication and management of on-site safety protocols regarding injuries and incidents.
- Maintains or oversees the successful completion/recording of building crisis plan, emergency kits, fire and tornado drills.
- Abide by all ODE and Grandview Heights Board of Education policies and guidelines to ensure a safe working environment for all students and staff.
Training and Orientation
- Must complete all training and certification required by Grandview Heights Schools and as assigned by the director.
- Must be able to create and lead staff orientation and training.
- Assist in maintaining staff training records and requirements.
- Must be able to complete onboarding of new staff members.
