A Day In The Life

The Legal Assistant provides clerical and administrative support to lawyers. The position requires strong practice management and client service skills, the ability to manage competing priorities effectively, and a high degree of confidentiality and discretion. This is a 12‑month maternity leave contract position.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Perform administrative tasks, such as email and calendar management, meeting coordination, processing incoming and outgoing mail, preparing expense reports, handling invoices and disbursements.
  • Prepare and finalize tax-related legal documents.
  • Support tax planning, reorganizations, and compliance work.
  • Manage closing binders and transaction records.
  • Maintain accurate electronic and physical files.
  • Prepare and submit CRA and registry filings.
  • Draft routine client and government correspondence.
  • Track deadlines, calendars, and follow-ups.
  • Enter and edit time entries and billing support.
  • Assist with file openings, conflicts, and intake.
  • Other duties, as assigned.

Required Skills and Experience

  • Legal Administrative Assistant certificate from an accredited post-secondary institution
  • 3–5 years of law firm experience, preferably in business law
  • Proficiency with iManage, Adobe, DocuSign, and Chrome River
  • Strong understanding of business and legal terminology
  • Ability to work independently with a high degree of accountability and minimal supervision
  • Proven capacity to work under pressure, manage multiple priorities, and multitask in a fast-paced environment
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, with meticulous attention to detail
  • Strong team player with the ability to build and maintain positive working relationships with staff and lawyers

Compensation

The typical salary range for this position is $50,000 - $62,000 annually; the base pay offered is based on location and may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, experience, internal and market equity.
