ANNOUNCEMENT OF POSITION VACANCY
SUMMARY: The Cal Poly Pomona Enterprises is currently seeking one Residential Coordinator. Under general direction of the Coordinator of EOP Transition Programs, the Residential Coordinator leads a Summer Bridge and Transfer Bridge residential life team of Resident Advisors and oversees all aspects of the residential life experience of Summer Bridge participants during the three-week program and Transfer Bridge participants during the optional overnight stay. This is a temporary assignment between June 1st- July 30th.
SOME OF THE THINGS THAT YOU WILL GET TO DO (this is just a small sampling of work variety):
Provide leadership for Summer Bridge Resident Advisors
- Co-facilitate training, lead, and provide input for evaluation of all Summer Bridge Resident Advisors and residential life programs.
- Coordinate, lead, and provide guidance to the Resident Advisors in the implementation of evening Student Engagement activities- weekly wing meetings and weekly check ins/check outs.
- Lead weekly RA staff (group and individual) meetings and participate in weekly meetings with appropriate Student Support and Equity Programs (SSEP) staff.
- Provide guidance and direction for RAs in their leadership positions and offer appropriate support in performing all aspects of their job descriptions.
- Delegate tasks to RAs and provide them with space to plan, organize, problem solve, and implement programs.
- Plan and lead overall program debriefing and evaluation with RAs and prepare a report to submit to the Coordinator of Transition Programs.
- Perform work evaluations for RAs at the end of the program to provide them with feedback on their performance and areas of growth.
Lead the development of the residential experience for Summer Bridge
- Coordinate the daily residence hall operations (e.g., on duty RA schedule, RA daily schedule, check-in and check-out protocol for participants, desk duties, RA availability and presence expectations during evening hours, student conduct, etc.).
- Plan, coordinate, and lead hall meetings and wing meetings in collaboration with Summer Bridge Coordinator, SSEP leadership, and residential life team.
- Lead the residence hall programming efforts and oversee all co-curricular activities in the residence hall.
- Lead response to serious or emergency situations following an established emergency protocol.
Assist with various administrative and reporting operations for Summer Bridge
- Provide support to the Coordinator of Transition Programs and other SSEP staff during Summer Bridge activities (move-in day, cool downs, wellness activities, closing events, assessment, etc.).
- Assist in making phone calls, following up with students, and compiling reports throughout Summer Bridge application process.
- Coordinate room assignments, occupancy and damage reports, resident check-in/check-out on opening, weekly check-ins/outs, and closing days, room changes, work requests, etc.; provide information to Conference Services for residential planning and implementation; assist with special requests made to Conference Services or Dining Services as needs arise for program participants.
- Convey Cal Poly Pomona, University Housing Services, Educational Opportunity Program, and Summer Bridge policies and procedures to all participants.
- Maintain proper paperwork regarding concerning matters to share with the Coordinator of Transition Programs in accordance with University Housing Services and transition program policies.
- Prepare debriefing notes as part of transition programs wrap-up activities.
- Assist with assessment implementation and reporting.
Provide professional assistance to Summer Bridge Resident Advisors and Program Participants
- Apply student development theory principles when working with students and Ras.
- Meet with Resident Advisors and students, if needed, regarding roommate conflicts, emotional, behavioral, or academic concerns by coordinating initial meeting with student and utilize interpersonal, fact gathering, and analytical skills to determine the severity of the situation and respond accordingly. Notify Coordinator and Assistant Coordinator of issue and action plan.
- Establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with residents utilizing skills to encourage growth and learning within the residence halls.
- Demonstrate professional behavior during programs through role modeling, and overall daily interaction with residents.
- Attend dinner with RA and participants the first week of program and make schedule adjustments to accommodate breaks, as needed.
- Have a presence during evening working schedule.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
- Must be available for Summer Bridge planning and programming dates (see above section on dates of employment)
- Ability to lead a team –organize schedules, provide work direction, maintain open and supportive communication, provide leadership, keep team accountable.
- Ability to understand and explain university policies and procedures.
- Good interpersonal and communication skills.
- Ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with diverse constituencies and department staff.
- Computer proficiency with Microsoft Office applications.
