Education: High school or equivalent. Creditable job-related experience may be substituted for the education requirement on a 9 months for 9 months basis. Must successfully complete ServSafe training when initially reporting to duty.

Major Duties
Ensure serving line is ready prior to each service period. All menu items must be on the serving line with appropriate utensils for serving. Refill serving line to ensure no service container is empty. Ensure all food items are kept at an appropriate temperature during service periods, hot or cold. Advise cook or supervisor when more items are needed. Comply with any food restrictions or other parental restrictions to ensure appropriate food items are served.
Ensure all service items, trays, silverware, napkins, etc., are available at all times during service period. Restock condiments as needed. Make sure there is enough milk, 2 different types, at all times during service period.
Explain food and entrees to students. Ensure all students are served fruit and vegetables in an appropriate amount following established guidelines. If student requests more, ensure any additional cost is explained to the student. Make certain students with specialized diets or restrictions receive specially prepared food timely.
All customers must stop at the register and every meal properly recorded using available systems. Determine if food is reimbursable, food balance for each student, and may involve cash handling and providing change. Check for documented specialized diet or allergy information, providing a new tray if needed. Check balance and any parental restrictions to include "extras."
Clean serving line, cashier, and dining area following sanitary standards, and assist with kitchen and bathroom cleaning including cleaning of floors in all areas. Ensure all serving tools are placed in dish room. Includes dish room duties following established guidelines. Collect and remove all trash from area, disposing properly. Prepare for next day service. May load and operate dishwashers and silverware washing machines.
May assist cook in simple preparations such as cutting fruit and vegetables into bite-size portions, helping in gathering items for the cook to prepare, and other similar duties. May operate an oven, deep-fat fryer, or other kitchen equipment in a situation where set procedures are followed and where cooking skills are not involved such as warming/reheating pre-packaged or preparing frozen foods.
Successful completion of annual continuing education/training required by US Department of Agriculture (USDA) for school nutrition program and position category.
Perform other duties as assigned.
