CNPC USA is actively seeking creative, innovative, best-in-class experts to join our growing team. This is a unique opportunity for a Sr. Quality Inspector.


The Sr. Quality Inspector is responsible for maintaining quality standards by approving incoming materials; in-process production of finished products; recording quality results; and supporting the daily QA/QC responsibilities of assigned projects. This role ensures that product quality, inspection activities, and documentation are consistent with engineering requirements, purchase order requirements, established company procedures, and applicable industry standards.


The Sr. Quality Inspector will assist with creating, implementing, and maintaining the quality management system. The position combines hands-on inspection work with documentation control, traceability review, calibration oversight, and supplier quality support. This role requires proficiency in dimensional inspection, thread inspection, PDC cutter inspection methods, and safe material handling practices within the warehouse and laboratory environment.


This position will report to the Sr. Facilities Lead.


Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Approving incoming materials by confirming specifications; conducting visual and measurement tests; rejecting and returning unacceptable materials.
  • Approving finished products by confirming specifications; conducting visual and measurement tests; returning products for re-work; confirming re-work.
  • Documenting inspection results by completing reports and logs.
  • Maintaining a safe and healthy work environment by following standards and procedures and complying with legal regulations.
  • Qualifying vendors and conducting onsite inspections and audits.
  • Creating and implementing procedures to improve quality, productivity, and efficiency.
  • Creating and implementing corrective action requests and supporting nonconformance report processing.
  • Ensuring compliance with API Q1 requirements, internal procedures, and customer or engineering requirements, as applicable.
  • May be required to participate in internal audits and Supplier Qualification audits.
  • Reviewing documentation packages including certificates of conformance, material test reports, dimensional reports, special process certifications, and related records for completeness and traceability.
  • Ensuring traceability of materials and components through verification of part number, revision, purchase order, serial number, heat number, and/or lot number, as applicable.
  • Performing receiving, in-process, and final inspections in accordance with engineering drawings, specifications, and inspection plans.
  • Conducting dimensional inspection using calipers, micrometers, bore gauges, and height gauges.
  • Performing thread inspection using comparators, rubber molds for thread replication, the Gagemaker Mic-Trac system, thread gauges such as ID Point Gage and OD Point Gage, and thread disk software.
  • Using microscopes and X-ray equipment for PDC cutter inspection.
  • Verifying critical features such as angles, radii, chamfers, profiles, and tolerances against engineering requirements.
  • Maintaining identification of inspected product and supporting documentation release for accepted material.
  • Overseeing calibration activities and maintaining inventory and control of QC inspection equipment.
  • Maintaining inspection and quality records within company systems, including ERP or document storage systems, as required.
  • Operating forklifts and overhead cranes to support receiving, handling, storage, and movement of material safely and efficiently.
  • Training Quality Inspectors as needed. 
  • Assuming and performing other duties and/or responsibilities as requested.

  • Experience with inspection(s) of downhole tools and related oilfield components.
  • Experience with quality inspections, testing, and technical documentation.
  • Experience with vendor management and manufacturing process(es).
  • Experience with portable CMMs, standard inspection tools, optical comparators, microscopes, X-ray equipment, and other applicable inspection equipment.
  • Proficiency with thread inspection equipment and methods, including rubber molding, Gagemaker Mic-Trac, ID Point Gage, OD Point Gage, and thread disk software.
  • Strong understanding of traceability, calibration control, and documentation review requirements.
  • Ability to safely operate common warehouse equipment such as forklifts and overhead cranes.
  • Ability to lift up to 50lbs.

 

Qualification(s):

  • Bachelor’s degree in Industrial Engineering; Mechanical Engineering; or related field preferred.
  • 5-10 years of experience in Manufacturing and Inspections. Working knowledge and experience with API Q1 and API 11D1 is preferred.
  • Demonstrated experience in dimensional inspection, documentation review, and quality control activities in a manufacturing environment.
  • Must be eligible to work in the United States of America.

 

Working Environment(s): 

This job operates in a professional office, laboratory, shop, and warehouse environment and routinely uses standard office equipment, inspection instruments, computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets, and/or related equipment.


In addition, employees occasionally work near moving mechanical parts; in high, precarious places; and/or may occasionally be exposed to the risk of electrical shock.

Travel(s):

This position may require overnight International and/or Domestic travel.

Local travel between all CNPC USA locations and/or vendors, is required.
